If you're a Thing, well, then you've already blown your wad in a very suspicious manner and are probably expendable, allowing you to pull these sorts of tricks, and a scan will out you anyway.  The 'I'm priming my dynamite and killing whoever votes for me' ploy, while verifying that no one could shut down your power, is also crazy suspicious.

Rather than potentially wasting more innocents, I think the best thing to do is scan Fuchs.

Windows, this logic is almost as flawed as Fuchs's. It seems to be a trend that we're entertaining the notion that these FRANKENSTEINS are going to be pulling crazy tricks to out-think us, but suppose for a second that you are one of them. They are afraid and outnumbered. They will play it safe, not grandiosely fool and prank us!

I don't think the monsters would ever so violently risk one of their own number unless they absolutely had to, and even then they'd want to see him voted for, not dynamite. It might be falling into their trap to say, "Why would a Thing ever ask to be dynamited?" but from a statistical point of view, wouldn't they rather waste a test while they're at it by pushing to have him examined first? If Fuchs is one of these ABNORMALITIES, then surely the others would be telling him to not even mention the idea of dynamiting him in case it put ideas in our heads.

... More to the point, hopefully if you got enough intelligent beings together, the majority would rule that what Fuchs has done is rather silly. I know we have!

I don't think Fuchs is a Thing.  I do think that Fuchs is a fuckin' idiot.

My vote is sticking on Garry and I'm just about done posting for the day.  I don't think any good can come from swimming in this cavalcade of bullshit.

p.s. Norris, I get that you're upset. This is a good thing, because it shows you cared about the game, which is exactly what I wanted. However, by your own admission, you know you're not supposed to talk after you're dead. I let the first one slip because you didn't say anything that could really influence the game and I didn't want to get involved, but now you're starting to degrade the other players experience and I've had a player ask me privately to delete your messages. Please stop posting.

I'm going to switch my vote to Garry in the interests of expediency and the lot of us not freezing to goddamn death while we try to decide.

Yeah, we saw.

Has it not occurred to you yet that broadcasting a clear cause-and-effect strategy to the entire base is like putting a sign on your back saying "Please manipulate me"?

PERHAPS THAT WAS THE MOST IMPORTANT PART.

Also, I just want to add now before we end up with the wire, that while I still support the self-test option, I think it's more important to ensure everyone gets tested once first.  Doing a sweep will ensure that we hit the original two things, and if they try to counter by only turning previously tested humans then they become very PREDICTABLE.

I WILL PAINT MY HOUSE WITH YOUR BLOOD.

Er, wait, wrong guy.

After an extremely long day, you retire to your rooms once again, knowing the barricades you erected last night will not hold. You can only hope you are not chosen to be killed... or worse.

Fuchs sits in his lab, scribbling furiously. Suddenly, the lights go out.

"Shit," he says, lighting a flare. The sudden red glow illuminates the man who has come for him.

"You!" Fuchs screams. "You're one of those... those THINGS!"

"Nope," replies Childs, leveling his flamethrower. "It's weird that the narrator is giving away my name, though."

Fuchs dashes to the right, but the jet of flame Childs sprays all over him consumes him before he can escape.

"Haha," Childs says, lighting a cigarette on the dying flames of the corpse. "That's one Thing down."

But the corpse of Fuchs remains normal. Human. A Dynamite carrier, but nothing more.

"Ah, shit," drawls Childs. "Guess I better get back to my room before someone sees me."

"Too late, monster," says a voice from behind him.

Childs wheels. "Wait, no! You don't understand! I'm human! I'm --"

But the sudden blast of flame cuts him off. Forever. The figure who killed him frowns as he realizes his mistake.

Childs was a Flamethrower.

8 players remain.

R. J. MacReady, Helicopter pilot
Dr. Blair, a station biologist
Nauls, the station's cook
Palmer, the station's backup helicopter pilot and mechanic
Dr. Copper, the station's physician
George Bennings, the station's meteorologist
Garry, the station commander
Windows, the station's radio operator

4 people are remains.

Clark - Human
Norris - Human
Fuchs - Dynamite
Childs - Flamethrower

It is now Day 3. It takes 5 votes to test.

48 hour timer begins now.

I don't think Fuchs is a Thing.

:(

Gentlemen, we're in trouble.

I'd like to hear a REALLY good reason why Blair shouldn't self-test IMMEDIATELY from someone other than Blair.

If my math is correct, we have to dynamite AND flamethrower a Thing today in order to be alive tomorrow.

THIS IS TOO CLOSE.  WE'RE ALMOST SANDWICHES.

Actually, I believe the things only win when both flamethrowers are dead/assimilated?
I could be wrong though.

Why would you say that when you could take ten seconds to check the rules thread and see that you are, in fact, correct? Are you purposely trying to sound like you don't know how the fuck the Things work to make us think you aren't one?

You're right. I could have checked. But I didn't. I was just going off of memory, which is why I added the disclaimer that "I could be wrong", in the off chance that I missed something.

Ironically enough, you could have checked the rules yourself and saw that my win condition was only half right:

All flame throwers are dead or assimilated AND you outnumber the amount of non-assimilated dynamite left in the game.

I'd like to hear a REALLY good reason why Blair shouldn't self-test IMMEDIATELY from someone other than Blair.

I don't think there is any sufficient reason.  Beyond my continuous push for the self-test, Blair is the only one left alive and untested from our previous suspicious-as-fuck list, and Blair, you are still SUSPICIOUS AS FUCK.  Self-test is pretty much the only way to clear your name at this point.
