Here I am breaking the 140 character limit just so I can be obnoxious.  Nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah.  Plus, hashcodes are for twits.  (do you see what I did there?)

I'm only posting here so my social circles don't leave me behind.

Replaying Baldur's Gate 2. I had almost forgotten how arcane and counter-intuitive 2nd ed rules are.

I had also considered byzantine and abstruse, but those imply actual complexity instead of just being written in a drawkcabs cipher to describe a bunch of backwards rules.

I just wish I could see how big my fireball or cloudkill was going to be before I tossed it gaily onto the field and accidentally killed my kensai MC.

I just recently started a new game of Icewind Dale (which uses the same engine as BG2 for you people not in the know) and was thinking the same thing re: rules.

They really are best described as "ass-backwards". Thaco and AC starting at 10 and going down? Saving throws instead of DCs? Mages who start with 1 spell and gain roughly 1 per level, meaning they are completely fucking useless until bare minimum level 5 and really not on par with your average fighter until 10? Fighters having literally nothing to do except auto-attack? Exceptional strength?

It's hard to believe I ran campaigns for ten years using that ruleset. (albeit, a heavily modified version, but still.)

RE: fireballs

I discovered that even after not playing any infinity engine game for over 4 years I still have the explosion radius perfectly memorized to the point where I can place the fireball so the very outer edge strikes the line of enemies engaging my front line fighters but doesn't hit my front line

RE: Kensai

fuck yes Kensai are awesome (and also pretty much the best main character to have since in late-game BG expak AC means exactly dick)

The first, hilarious insult to fighters is that at level 1, they have the same base thac0 as a mage. HA HA HA.

TBH, the kensai is basically for people used to playing jrpgshits. For people who believe misses should occur maybe 5% of the time and a battle between two fighters should be determined by a steady slugfest.

Supposedly dual-classing a kensai with a thief or mage basically eliminates their weaknesses as a "kit". So I figure I should try that instead of playing a wild mage all of the time.

You trash JRPGs while thoroughly exemplifying how useless your preferred system is.  Nice.

I am always up for commenting on the flaws of those around me. Except for you Brentai, I keep all of your flaws under my hat. It's a big hat. Also I don't like you. Maybe that last one isn't a flaw.

You trash JRPGs... Nice.

Not entirely sure how anyone could forget my creepy fetishistic love of JRPGs. It comes in second only to misusing words, or making up words (to misuse).
