We All Scream At Ice Cream

Here's the pitch: Invent a flavor of ice cream or sorbet.  It can be something that's a bit weird that you haven't heard of in ice cream form before, it can be a flavor you would never eat if there was even a chance someone else would find out.  Banana-hotdog-barbecue sauce?  I won’t tell anybody you thought of it if you’re too ashamed.  I’ll just make it.

I've been at this for a couple weeks on the ol' blog, but since a bunch of Brontos seem interested in having iced oddities made, I thought I'd go ahead and crosspost it here.  Might not post the whole text of the blog entries, because they tend to be long and frequent and I can just link them here anyway, but I'll put pictures up and assign blame for things invented by Brontos.  If there's something you want made, go ahead and suggest it.  Or if you've got a more general ice cream Thing you're curious about (I solved the Case of the Non-Soggy Cheetos In Chocolate Ice Cream last week as a bonus mission,) throw that up too.  By the end of this I am going to be a fucking expert at making ice cream everyone is scared to eat.

This week, enchilada ice cream, guacamole ice cream (Mongrel) and cilantro ice cream (Clutch)

Also, general ice cream discussion.  Anyone else make it?  If not, just what the hell flavor do you like best?

Interesting. I just finished off the last of my new favorite ice cream, Coconut Bliss. It's a vegan, gluten-free organic ice cream made with coconut milk. And maaaaaan is it good.

But if you DO want that hearty metal taste, make Blood Pudding ice cream, which should be so rich in Iron Magneto would be able to kill you with a swift pelvic thrust.

It's a fucking horrifying idea, but I was thinking the same.  Some kind of dry aged beef or boudin noir infusion.  As long as it got the iron-y taste across, I could call it a mild success.  Or, I could leave ice cream base in a highly reactive bowl for a day or two.

Buge, that stuff sounds great.  Incidentally, I'd love requests from you.  Non-dairy stuff is pretty appealing from a mechanical perspective, plus you'd be able to swing by and taste the result for yourself.

R^2: I've found that sub-100-dollar ice cream machines don't give as good a result as what you can do with two metal bowls and a whisk.  Keep highly saline slush in a great big bowl in the freezer, have the ice cream base in a smaller bowl, whisk inside the fridge or freezer for usually under ten minutes.  Arm hurts afterwards, but hey, I just made a fucking huge pile of ice cream.  Maybe burning a few calories in the process isn't a bad idea.  It does sort of depend on having a decent amount of freezer space available, but otherwise doing it archaic-style has been very good to me.

Son, I've made pastry cream, Sabayon, mayonnaise, Hollandaise, Swiss meringue,  and whipped cream. Whisking my arm to exhaustion is something I barely notice anymore. (That said, I didn't really need to know the churn isn't necessary. This is not good for my health.)
