Like Jon Stewart said, the left is trying to distance itself from the left, and the right is also trying to distance itself from the left.

As always, we can expect only the best fact-checking and sourcing as we approach the election.

But... Isn't this economic crisis specifically the fault of the right? What with its constant and undending pushes towards deregulation?

Does the right honestly have the balls to say it's the left's fault because of home ownership subsidies?

Also... heh. movements.

This just in (see the news source of your choice): Gingrich's entire senior campaign staff have just dumped him en masse.

And now, a little schadenfreude :glee:

So I caught abouy as much of the Republican debates as any reasonable person could stand. I wonder how many times the word "Obamacare" was used?

So it appears that Wienergate is going to come to a close with him stepping down.

For sending a picture of himself in his underwear to a woman he was not married to.

Meanwhile, Newt Gingrich is being considered as a serious contender for president.

What in the shitting fuck?

Two things in the story that had to be maintained for the good of the Party

1) Though outspoken and largely progressive, Weiner was still a Democrat. Any attempts to push the party left or otherwise embarrass them - at least vocally, if not in actions - must be dealt with. Easy way is to make him step down for a Not a Sex Scandal. Hence why party leaders Pelosi and Reid couldn't try and disown him fast enough.

2) The initial reporting was done by Andrew Breitbart, a giant cockroach wearing the skin of a human. Breitbart's m.o. to date has been to publish fabricate stories about progressive and liberal malfeasance, so that the Democrats will kill the offending party before anything like logic or pointing out that Andrew Breitbart is full of shit can be done about it. In this instance, despite the fact that no laws were broken and that Andrew Weiner didn't really do anything explicit, Breitbart was at least factually correct, so decorum had to be maintained. Thus, Weiner gets booted out the door.

Of course, none of this changes the fact that Weiner let himself get pushed around for what basically amounts to a game of Spot the Salami with girls he's never actually met in real life. Where I once thought he was a tough, ballsy Democrat, I now realize that he is in fact just a Democrat.

In the end, though, what pisses me off the most is that this and Sarah Palin's e-mails have been dominating the news cycles around here while the fact that European countries have started exploding into revolution has largely been ignored.

Oh, he is not.

Eh, I don't think anyone's taking her any more seriously than Newt.  They'll both finish behind Ron Paul.

Yeah, Newt's own campaign staff didn't take him seriously. Hell, his chances looked so bad that "Rick Perry kinda sort MIGHT be a candidate. Possibly." seemed like a better shot to some of them.

I think it's more that his staff took the campaign more seriously than he did.

That video where the Teabaggers tried to get him to say teachers are lazy and overpaid WAS awesome.

...here, for those who haven't seen it yet:

Matt Damon defends teachers against a [expletive] cameraman!

Apparently it went on for a bit longer than that.  The woman with him -- the one who asks "Where do you get that number?" when the cameraman says 10% of teachers are bad -- is his mother, who is a teacher; obviously the people asking the questions did not know that.  And I guess had also never seen Good Will Hunting?

As much as anything else I love the implication that actors are motivated by money.  Yeah, THAT'S why people pursue a career in acting -- because of the big bucks most actors make.  And of course the ones who DO become multimillionaires are always worried about where their next paycheck is coming from.
