Not that Obama didn't disappoint on occasion. When I hear him pointing out that "the flow of illegal immigrants across the border is the lowest it's been in forty years" I don't chalk it up to increased border patrols (which are fucking stupid in the first place,) but to the fact that the economy hasn't been this far down the shitter in forty years. I'm sure someone is going to latch onto that.

But I do love the mod asking Romney a follow-up immediately afterward and he actually says "No. Let me go back." Fucking seriously. Then he just goes on to split hairs over which shitty parts of Arizona's shitty border law he thinks aren't shitty.

My initial thoughts.

Ultimately what's going to hurt Romney the most is that the person boxing him into corners was the moderator.
You don't think that will just result in cries of "Liberal bias!"?

"Liberal bias!" with a side of "CROWLEY LIED! Obama never said 'Terrorist attack!'*

* He said 'acts of terror'!"

After the "Can you differentiate yourself from Bush?" question.  Which is, like, the worst possible place of all the terrible places he could have snubbed an undecided voter who just asked him a question to his face.

Any other outlet mention live how the Green Party candidates were arrested just outside the premises? (They might have, I'm just curious.)

Jesus Christ, AGAIN?  They already had to settle a lawsuit with Nader over the same shit.

A correction, though:

Quote from: Washington Post
The Commission on Presidential Debates, founded by the Democratic and Republican parties, mandates that a candidate must have at least 15 percent support in national polls to be included. Since the CPD’s inception in the 1988 campaign, that has only happened once — when Ross Perot went onstage with President George H. W. Bush and Bill Clinton in 1992.

This is not true.  The CPD's 15% requirement was added in 2000.  Per the NYT, Perot was polling just under 15% in September of '92.  (Incidentally, the poll also has him taking more votes from Clinton than from Bush.)  Per Wikipedia, Perot polled as high as 39% in June, but, after he quit and then unquit, he lost most of his supporters and was polling in the single digits by the time the debate rolled around.

I can't find the 1992 requirements offhand but I'm confident that the 15% was added in 2000 explicitly to keep guys like Perot (and Nader, and Buchanan) out.

EDIT: Oh, I almost forgot my favorite part: that woman's face when Romney responded to her question about restricting AK-47's by saying we need to teach kids not to have premarital sex.  Can anybody get a cap of that?

Oh, jeez. And Romney walking backwards, talking over the moderator while chanting "Government does not create jobs... Government does not create jobs..." With his head down while shaking his finger. He might as well have been rocking in the corner of a padded room. It probably helped that it was immediately followed by "The President's campaign has tried to characterize me as someone who doesn't care about 100% of the people." Straight up toys in the attic.

Also, I don't usually approve of this sort of thing, but among other compliments mentioning that Romney cares about his faith is always a good one. If only because it makes everyone go "Oh yeah, I forgot about that part."

Great, thanks to that stupid title, all I can think of is "Mitt Romney plays Milo Minderbinder".

Come to think of it, the egyptian cotton fiasco ended in a government bailout IIRC...

Ryan barges into a soup kitchen without permission, pretends to be working for the cameras, and potentially fucks up the place's funding just by being there.

I should be outraged or at least disappointed but, honestly, it's just too damned funny.

Looks like you can change 'potentially' to 'substantially'.

Barry taking a page out of Jeff Foxworthy's book:
President Obama in Fairfax, Virginia: "Romnesia"

The best part is just how much fun he looks like he's having with this, though. I don't remember the last time he's looked so happy, except for the very brief, "Can you say that a little louder, Candy?"

Yeah, whoever came up with 'Romnesia' should definitely get a raise.

I was smiling a bit right up until the pre-existing conditions punchline, and then I lost it. Where you been, Obama?

The White House has an exotic radiation generator inside it that makes you dull if you're too close to it for too long. Now that he's got a chance to get out and campaign, the particles are starting to flush out of his system. Every time Obama goes to the bathroom anywhere outside of Washington DC he becomes a little bit more fun to be around.

Romney's numbers started to rise. Obama suddenly had to actually campaign.

About to have a bite but if anyone's on IRC chattering about this thing I might pop in after I'm done.

I'm not clicking that.  I don't want to spoil that perfect image of Barack Obama debating against a Thunderbirds puppet.
