Now taking bets on the next flavour-of-the-week.

Er, you mean after Newt?

Assuming Huntsman will never get attention from the base and Paul will never get attention from the media, I think that just leaves Santorum.

Right out the bat, New Media Darling Newt says child labor laws are 'truly stupid'

Usually they need a bit of a warmup, but it's like Gingrich just took a look at Cain, Perry and Bachman and decided they were chumps.

Fire all the school janitors and replace them with cheap child labor.

I'll give him one thing: he's not making it easy for the Stewart and Colbert writers.  How the fuck do you satirize THAT?

Plus, now maybe people will stop talking about how he cheated on his first two wives!

I've long since held a position that Stewart & Colbert Writers are having the toughest job in the past few years, because no matter what parody they do, reality is doing it's damndest to be even more silly.

Cain: I will be elected to lead, not to read.

You know, my first instinct was to think that the wording was a coincidence, as it's rather an obvious turn of phrase.  And if it were anybody else, I would go with that instinct.

But since it occurs to me that this guy's already been caught repeatedly quoting Pokemon without realizing that was what he was quoting, I think it's entirely possible that he was actually quoting The Simpsons Movie without remembering where he'd heard that phrase.

GOP Candidate Herman Cain quoted Pokemon 2000. Four times.

Actual story: guy doesn't seem to realize the origin of  a single quote he uses four times (on completely separate occasions).

Humorous, but god damn I hate how they try to word that make it sound Joystiq.

Right out the bat, New Media Darling Newt says child labor laws are 'truly stupid'

Top story on Google News right now is Newt Gingrich: Child labor laws 'truly stupid'

Bachmann, Cain -- they could be contained as an ideologue and a guy who's not even really a politician.  Gingrich makes headlines like that, it has the potential to damage the entire party.

Keep talkin', Newt.  Tell us what you really think.

I'm still disappointed that we can't use "The You're Fired Party" next year, but last time the GOP was largely considered the party of Gingrich we got pretty much the best 6 years of post-war economy.

Some part of my mind with its disbelief thoroughly suspended likes to imagine that the "real" Newt Gngrich knows that the best way to save America is to grab the spotlight and act like Newt Fucking Gingrich.  Completely imaginary fall guy, I salute you.

Tom Tomorrow had a series of cartoons that depicted Bush, Cheney, Rove et al as a bunch of hippies who decided, in the 1960's, to take over the Republican Party and destroy it from the inside.

He's since followed it up with Obama doing the reverse.

I hear Stewart's jumped on the "replace Obama" bandwagon, but since it's Stewart I can't tell from a rumor whether he's in earnest or not.  Somebody with cable/non-work internet access want to give me the skinny?

Sorry it was a little longer than half an hour; got roped into tech support for my grandmother.

Anyway, no, no reference to unseating Obama in Thursday's episode.

Unless it was a stealth endorsement of Sarah Vowell.

...

...I am totally voting for Sarah Vowell.

Rupert Murdoch still really, really wants Hillary Clinton to be the Democratic nominee.

I quite like the opening sentence:

Quote
When Harry Truman and Lyndon Johnson accepted the reality that they could not effectively govern the nation if they sought re-election to the White House, both men took the moral high ground and decided against running for a new term as president.

Yeah, and remind me what happened to Stevenson and Humphrey.

Tends to undercut the ensuing 15 paragraphs swearing that no, totally, you guys, we want Hillary Clinton to win.

In case, you know, the Wall Street Journal logo at the top of the page wasn't enough to do that by itself.

I can't stand her. She's kind of funny but her presentation is awful to watch.

First attack ad of the season against Obama, and of course it's a fucking unqualified lie by omission.

This has got me thinking; as much as I hate the sort of two-party game that our political system has married itself to, if we are forced to do it that way, I'd like to propose a new rule.  Any TV, radio, internet or other running advertisement must be followed, immediately, by the opposite party's response to the ad.  Not only does this prevent one side from being clearly misinformative without the other side being able to say "Hey asshole", but we get to see who votes against it and immdiately identify them all as constant liars who don't want to be called out.

Anyway, back in reality, what just happened is that the idea that we might be able to live with Romney as President just went out the fucking window.  Barack Obama is a lot of things, but at least he's not a cheating bastard.  So, thanks a fucking lot for that, Mitt.

They had that! It was called the Fairness Doctrine. Then they got rid of it.
