I'm curious then - how to explain his #2 showing?

I mean, I realize the straw poll was bunco crazyland nonsense, but still. SOMEBODY likes the guy.

The normal crazies are split 4-6 ways.  The libertarians just have Paul.

Pretty much.

Paul's not a viable candidate, but the Daily Show segment still makes an excellent point about how the media's treating him.  I don't like the guy, but I absolutely hate how the media treats outsider candidates -- mostly ignore them, occasionally mock or dismiss them.

Again, I'm not a fan, but they pull the same shit with outsider candidates who I DO agree with -- guys like Nader, Kucinich, and even Dean.

There's just something really weird and sinister about the media narrative where it acts like Rick Santorum is a serious candidate and Ron Paul isn't.  Paul's opinions aren't any farther outside the mainstream than Santorum's, his poll numbers are a hell of a lot higher, and he's served more years in office.  There's no objective reason to cover Santorum while ignoring Paul; at best it's arbitrary and at worst its a deliberate pattern of blackballing unorthodox candidates.

Devils Advocate defence of the mainstream media: Maybe they think they're covering the one they feel has an actual chance, in the sense that they just figure Paul's going to get "McCain-in-00'd"?

Quote
"The day that the president became president gasoline was $1.79 a gallon. Look at what it is today," says on tape at an event in Greenville, S.C., as chronicled by Politico. "Under President Bachmann, you will see gasoline come down below $2 a gallon again. That will happen."

So gas prices will momentarily drop below two bucks again in the immediate aftermath of another economic cataclysm?

I didn't say that was actually right in any way. Just groping for some kind of explanation.

The explanation is quite clear: the MSM is fucking scared to death of independents and pseudo-independents.  People like, saaaaay, BARACKSTAR OBAMA need the MSM more than anything else - they live and die within the system of mass public opinion that the MSM keeps a tenuous stranglehold on.  But people like Kucinich and Paul, who just go ahead and vote based on their own beliefs instead of the party's, are doing something unthinkable in modern politics - they are accepting the fact that some of the things they say and do will be unpopular.  And by accepting this, they also basically accept that they don't need the MSM's popularity engine and reserve every right to make an enemy out of the press if they feel it's the politically correct thing to do.

So yeah, even though he hasn't really made any moves against the press (that I know of), Paul is too much of a wildcard for them to endorse.  Problem is this is turning out to his advantage - when the man gets on the podium and points out that the headlines from the straw poll read "Bachmann First, Pawlenty Third" he gets to present himself as the race's best-kept secret.  On the other hand, that's exactly what he did in the last election, and it backfired horribly when he ended up selling himself to all the wrong people.

It was shortly after the '08 oil crash, so it's entirely possible. Do you not remember that? Gas hit $1.20 at its lowest here. That said, they did fall from $4 a gallon and nothing about gasoline regulations has changed since like 2001-02 or whenever so I don't really see it not going back on. The more probably answer is that Bachmann just believes that the price of things is affixed because of people's views of the president.

Or that the president personally calls oil companies up and requests the price of gas. Really, the delusional crap that woman believes is like a rabbit hole of crazy.

I can tell you it's bullshit because the Giuliani is in the "electable" category.

His first move as president: secretly kill all the homeless.

It was shortly after the '08 oil crash, so it's entirely possible. Do you not remember that? Gas hit $1.20 at its lowest here.
also this. I looked it up and apparently gas went down to $1.85 here. I must just not have been out that hour. Lowest I saw it valley was the $2.30-.40 range.

Michele Bachmann Soviet Union "On The Rise"?

Here's something with the audio.  Come for the Bachmann quote, leave for the TYT commentary.
