Why won't the base pay attention to Huntsman? Just because he's running as a moderate?
Well, yes. If they voted for moderates they wouldn't be the base.
Don't they know that the candidate closest to the center is most likely to win the general election?
An oversimplification. If that were true then President Kerry would be finishing his second term and there would be zero Tea Partiers in Congress.
Wouldn't they rather have a President Huntsman than another term of President Obama?
Well, yes, and they're going to fall in line behind Romney when he gets the nomination just like they fell in line behind McCain and Dole. But in the meantime, they'd rather not see him nominated.
Huntsman doesn't even enter into the equation. As Stewart put it, he's for the people who like Mitt Romney but think he has too much name recognition. He may have his day, but not this year.
As desperate as the spin machine is, I don't know that they're going to pick up on Newt.
Dude, they've been pushing him for a WEEK. He's the third damn headline on Google News right now.
He's too much of a known quantity and has too much experience trying to play them for his own purposes (not necessarily succeeding, but he's been there).
Well, no shit. But we're talking about people who spent like two months talking about DONALD TRUMP.
Also, that Cain link doesn't work up here. Summary/alternate YouTube Link? (There's an 8 minute Cain vs. Stewart clip, but wasn't sure if it's supposed to be a moment in there?)
Probably.
Short version is, they ask him if he agrees or disagrees with Obama's handling of Libya and he stammers, gives a very long pause, states the most basic facts of the situation (that we supported the rebels in ousting Ghadafi), stammers some more, and tries to bullshit like he knows the answer -- you know how people do, with long, convoluted sentences while they're gathering their thoughts? But the thoughts never quite come; he's clearly reaching for what the Tea Party wants him to say but he doesn't know what that is.
Again, Perry's flub is minor by comparison.
