Newt/Mitt winning the nom.

Which is to say that no matter who wins there's going to be some seriously angry folks.

Oh please, people would thought McCain would split the party. When it comes down to it, the Republicans know how to fall in line lock-step because the alternative (to them) is much worse.

To clarify that, I think you're more or less right about the early days of the Teabaggers, but that the issue doesn't need to be driven by organizational capabilities.

Rationality has very little hold on most of these people, so it's all about how angry they are. The angrier they get, the more spectacular the stupid behaviour. Jokes above aside, I think if Newt wins, the "corporate" wing of the GOP will probably go along with it, just because they can tell themselves he's "their" man. It'd probably take someone like Palin winning the nom to get the Corporate side thinking about splitting, and even then they might just grin and bear it, unless similarly colossal failures were repeated for several elections in a row.

But if Romney wins (and he still has the best shot), the Teabaggers might just reach that point where someone gets so mad they just start punching themselves in the head over and over. This goes double if one of their opportunistic "icons" (like Bachmann or someone) actively calls for the creation of a new party with a lunatic Randian stance.

First of all, this teabag stuff was still nascent at the time. It's pretty established now. Second, it's like I said: The Teabaggers just weren't angry enough yet. Once they cross that threshold (hating their "allies" more than their enemies), anything might happen. Maybe that means a new party, maybe that means some other batshit crazy nonsense.

Sure, we're not there yet, and Romney probably won't split the party either, I'm just saying it's becoming possible.

Guys, guys. Remember, Ron Paul is not different from the GOP. He still supports drugs being illegal, women being told what to do, and for nobody to have an education.

Are you sure about the drugs?

Remember, there is no good GOP candidate. It basically comes down to a decision of whether you want to be stabbed in the left or the right nut.

Paul getting the nomination would be a victory against the media narrative and establishment CW.

Doesn't mean he's actually good or anyone should like him, but there's more to elections than just the politics of the guys running.

Contrary to what it seems sometimes, whether or not you're a complete prick isn't the first and last deciding factor as to whether or not you're a conservative.  If it was, PETA would be running the RNC.

In other words, Paul is a complete prick, but he's the wrong kind of complete prick for the GOP.

People focus on how he's against the Federal Drug War, which is a different thing from being for drug legalization. His stance is that the cost of brutalizing black people should fall on the states, not the federal government.

Rick Perry's new ad on Youtube has been up less than 48 hours, and it's creeping up on 50,000 dislikes.

I haven't watched it, but apparently he complains about gay people while wearing no-shit-the-exact-same-jacket-Heath-Ledger-has-on-the-Brokeback-Mountain-poster?

Yep. He also says he's going to bring back prayer in schools and end Obama's "War on Religion".

It's not the exact same jacket, but it is the same color/extremely gay fur collar.  Still funny!

Still waiting to see if he executes a rare and extremely dangerous Double Viral Reversal and gets the GOP nom entirely based on his ability to annoy liberals.

:itsmagic:

I don't understand whenever I hear people say children aren't allowed to pray in school or celebrate christmas. Maybe I went to some ass-backward highschool, but if you wanted to pray silently before a test or during the moment of silence on Sept 11  nobody was going to throw a copy of The Origin of Species at you and tell you to take that shit outside. There were not mandated class prayer times, but that has nothing to do with education anyway and is a direct violation of my right to not pray, so I don't know what the fuck people are talking about.

And everyone just said "merry christmas" in December. Never heard a single complaint about it, even from the jews and muslims that went to my school. Christmas isn't a religious holiday anyway, unless your god is the US Dollar and your morals can be reduced to the phrase "consume until you can't."

They think that schools not being able to force everyone to pray or celebrate Christmas means that they themselves can't do it.

The thing to remember about the Christian and conservative fascist types is that they think its their divine right to inflict their will on others. If they don't get this, they think their rights are being infringed on.

Nex...
Christmas isn't a religious holiday
I- I don't think you're doing the self-righteous-but-internally-inconsistent-prick thing here.
Christmas is a religious holiday, even if it's not celebrated or observed as such in all instances.

Even Valentine's Day is nominally a religious holiday even though his feast day has been taken off the general calendar.

While I love hatin' on the crazy bullies of the world...

The thing to remember about the Christian and conservative fascist types is that they think it's demonstrated and self-evident that their divine right to inflict their will on others way of life is irrefutably superior to any other and everyone should live in that mode. If they don't get this, they think their rights are being infringed on or they are practicing dangerous self-destructive practices.

This is slightly more true of the self-righteous bullshit that fascists tell themselves.

Oklahoma City Public schools have a moment of silence at the beginning of each day during which the students are told they can pray silently if they want to. It's kind of gross. We didn't have this when I was in school under Clinton and the Bushes, so I find the idea of a war on religion a bit silly.

Const is right in this case though.  The Evangelicals get kind of upset when told they can't, well, evangelize.  They don't quite grasp the idea that almost all of their personal rights stop at the point where they start infringing on someone else's.  To be fair, they don't have a lot of terribly good examples to follow.

He's trying to make a point, but it just comes of as shaky banter. Classic Classic.
