Yeah, it means something.  And it means something that's liable to predict not only campaign rhetoric but eventual election numbers.

But individual approval ratings of each Senator and Congressman will tell us a lot more.  And obviously those numbers are flexible right up until election day.

I can't see Romney winning Michigan again after that "Let Detroit go bankrupt" talk.

Doubling down is probably the best option he's left himself (he can't ignore it and if he tries to back off it'll just feed into the flip-flopper narrative) but it still won't do him any favors.

Heard him on the radio ranting about UAW and unions in general.  At a rally in Detroit.

...is this guy actually from Michigan?

Because I've never actually BEEN to Michigan, but it strikes ME as a bad idea to rant about the autoworkers union in Detroit.

I think he gave up on his home state a week ago and is just using it to display how gilded his balls are at this point.  He has no hope whatsoever of carrying Detroit after saying repeatedly how pissed off he is that the city didn't descend into carnal mayhem, but most of the rest of the country seems to really enjoy the "labor unions are evil, the reason you working class folk are so poor is because you have collective bargaining rights" Kool-Aid, so he might as well take the chance to show how big a finger he can give to it.

I dunno.  The Michigan car nuts tend to vilify the UAW pretty outrageously, because that means their precious GM and Chrysler and Ford are blameless victims of evil exploitation.

This is different from Michigan car workers, but they're not voting red anyway.

Gingrich needs to get the political blood pumping!

What does he do?

He takes a page from Michelle Bachmann's book.

"I'M GOING TO REDUCE GAS PRICES"

http://money.cnn.com/2012/02/24/news/economy/gingrich_gas_prices/index.htm

Is this an election for President of the United States, or the fucking student body?

"I've developed a program for American energy so no future president will ever bow to a Saudi king again and so every American can look forward to $2.50 a gallon gasoline."

fffffffffffffffffffffffffffff

I didn't own a car until 2006, so can someone refresh my memory as to what gas prices were before the last Republican President started invading various middle-eastern nations?

I don't recall myself, but whatever it was it made huge gas guzzling cars seem like a good choice and electric cars a cute little pipe-dream.

Oh yeah, we also had crazy awesome electric cars on sale during the late 90's.

We had those here, too.  Our governor fucked it up by creating a subsidy for them that, in practice, let the Suns get free golf carts for their kids.

I didn't have a driver's license until 2007, but I still remember a gallon of gas being 99 cents in 1999.

I remember when a litre of gas was 33 cents

I remember when a decent meal out at a so-so sit-in restaurant could easily be had for $10

I remember when 2L pop bottles were 99 cents and not $2.59

Oddly enough, I am not in fact 89.

BUT HEY COMPUTERS ARE CHEAPER SO INFLATION DOESN'T EXIST.

Honestly, this makes me a little happy even if I feel it's a precursor to an R&D slump.

So apparently Romney tried to prove his I-<3-Michigan bona-fides the other day by citing the number of cars he owns.

I'd rather not find out what that environment scan is a precursor for.

I don't know why Romney is so goddamn nervous in Michigan, considering he is from Michigan. I don't even know why he's bothering to campaign there. The state is such a solid slam dunk for him that he'd be better served spending his resources elsewhere.

Because he keeps making speeches where he says that GM and Chevrolet should declare bankruptcy and shut down.
