Is improving relations with Britain the first concrete promise Romney's made beyond "I will not raise any taxes?"*.  Because he fucked that one up in record time.

* He will, and he'll call it a "fee" instead of a "tax".

Ever since I read the "Anglo-Saxon" thing, all I can think of is Romney singing Choose Your Poison.

London Mayor slam dunks Romney as well.

Gonna quote it in case the blog-feed bumps it off the front page.

Quote
The Geiger counter of Olympo-mania is going to go zoink! off the scale! People are coming from around the world, and they're seeing us, and they're seeing the greatest country on Earth, aren't they? There are some people who are coming from around the world who don't yet know about all the preparations we've done to get London ready in the last seven years. I hear there's a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know whether we're ready. Are we ready? *crowd goes wild*

I get the feeling that Romney thinks he can win just by goin up on stage and saying "I'm not Obama." and that will end it there.

That has been the GOP's platform since November 2008, so I'm pretty sure he does.

In his case it's more that he hopes continually going "I'm Not Obama" will distract the other right-wing voters from him being a scary non-baptist.

Man, I do not think Romney is going to get England to vote for him.

Quote from:  Mitt Romney
England [sic] is just a small island. Its roads and houses are small. With few exceptions, it doesn't make things that people in the rest of the world want to buy. And if it hadn't been separated from the continent by water, it almost certainly would have been lost to Hitler's ambitions. Yet only two lifetimes ago, Britain ruled the largest and wealthiest empire in the history of humankind. Britain controlled a quarter of the earth's land and a quarter of the earth's population.

The democrats tried that strategy in 2004 with Kerry and the "Anyone But Bush" campaign. Didn't work too well, and the Democrats had a few more legitimate grievances than merely "he isn't doing a good enough job!"

since it's not one specific article that's bothering me, here's a link.

No matter how much distaste I have for Romney, and think he's an elitist who is out of touch with America, can we please leave the guy alone about the fucking dressage horse? That horse happens to be an olympian and athlete representing our country in Britain right now, and it's absolutely outrageous to leap on the guy over something this fucking stupid. Yes, the horse cost more to maintain than the average middle class family: so do most Olympic athletes. And what the fuck do we expect Romney to do, feed America? The man's wife has a hobby and that's dressage. Let her enjoy her sport. I'd even accept the cries of elitism, but fuck, are we stringing up the other Americans with dressage horses right now? They're olympic athletes! The only way they could be more american is if they were star-spangle patterened hippogryphs with the head of a bald eagle.

Most Americans with Dressage horses, or other incredibly expensive hobbies that represent how incredibly out of touch they are with the common American aren't simultaneously vying to represent said Americans in government.

Also, dude, it's a horse.  A horse is not an athlete.

On a campaign that they understand what's best for the middle class.  (Which is probably redundant, but bears adding.)

Also, dude, it's a horse.  A horse is not an athlete.

That too.

While it costs a lot to be an Olympic athlete, most of the popular Olympic sports are things that ordinary people can do with no resources.  Basketball, boxing, lifting and throwing heavy objects, running, swimming, gymnastics -- you can be dirt-ass poor and get good at any one of those things.

You can't be dirt-ass poor and pay a guy to teach your horse to dance.  That is straight-up top-hat-and-monocle shit.  And no, the guy talking about jobs and the economy does not get a fucking pass on that.  You know who does?  Every single OTHER person with a dressage horse.  Because hey, good for them, as long as they don't try to tell me how tough their lives are and how desperately they need their taxes cut because they're obviously feeling such a tight squeeze in this economy.

The really insulting thing about Ann Romney's horse is whenever they mention it's good for her MS. While campaigning with the Republican Party platform of "We will repeal Obamacare at all costs. What about the 30 million uninsured? What about them?" See, it's great that Horse Riding is good for Ann Romney's MS! It's fantastic! People shouldn't have to suffer through terrible diseases and if she can get the care to make it easier, cool! Now when her Husband runs a campaign with a party that makes it harder for poor people to get any care at all, rather than let that black man win, fuck them.

I feel like Mitt Romney's position on the issues or lack thereof and his record of business ethics speak fine for Romney's character on their own without us having to nitpick about what the man does with his social life. Mitt Romney's a rich guy and his family are rich guys and they have rich guy hobbies. We were all pretty enraged when the right did basically the same shit to Kerry in 04, and Kerry's million dollar hobbies didn't involve a shot at gold medals in an Olympic event.

There are better things to get mad about and it just makes the left look like petty assholes to throw tirades about horses when Romney has gone on record as saying he thinks corporations are people and he enjoys getting to fire employees.

and I'm gonna be real here: Who the fuck is not voting for Romney, or is going to show up to the polls on election day, because the guy has a dancing horse? Is this going to be an issue for fucking anybody? Is this going to be the last checkbox in the list of checkboxes that makes a moderate decide to vote Democrat? Or are we just dragging a guy through the mud because he's not the person we want to win the Presidency?

I'm not suggesting it's an ELECTION DECIDING ISSUE, but that doesn't stop me from begrudging the man spending more than double the largest salary I've ever made on caring for a horse while at the same time telling me that because I've never made enough money, I don't deserve healthcare.

There are, hopefully, people who are going to not vote for Romney because of how absurdly privileged a privileged life he leads, while talking down to them about how it's their fault they're poor.  Thad had it right with "top hat and monocle".  Every point that can be hammered to remind people of this, every issue on which he can be shown to be impossibly out-of-touch, it's an aggregate effect.  Spending multiple teacher's salaries on a dancing horse is one of the things in a long list made up of little things.
