Every time I've looked at it, it's either "Full" or "Locked".

Free character transfers just went up to try to get people to jump ship off of Moon Guard, so it might be open again soon.

Well, made it on the Moon Guard, but if this "Full Thing" persist we might want to jump ship on some Free Transfer goodness.  Either way, Goblin Priest named Hising

Moon Guard's worth staying on for a variety of reasons. The free transfers will probably serve to get a great deal of people off the server, and it's better to be on a full server than a low pop server. The queues should die down in the next couple of weeks.

Yeah, I just transferred my main to Skywall (very low population) and holy shit everything's dirt cheap on the AH here.

I really disagree with this. On a low pop server, it's hard to find what you need on the auctionhouse, it's hard to assemble raids if you're short a few people and it's hard to recruit new people to the guild if you're hurting for members.

I know the LB and it's contemporaries kind of have a terrible fear of pugging and strangers for some reason, but one of the things I like about WoW is meeting new people. If I'd stayed with the LB vacuum environment on Dethecus I never would have met my wife and I'd probably still be working dead end minimum wage jobs in Michigan and living with my mom.

This is only nice until you need a lot of gold to make a big purchase. (epic flight, 310 flight, choppers, the new alchemy mount) An inflated economy only hurts for as long as you're not participating in it. 5 minutes on the auctionhouse to post your greens/blues/tradeskill mats, and you'll have a ton of money in no time - I managed to put together nearly 3,000 gold just from selling glyphs on Moon Guard the first four days I was there.

Yeah, the thing about a high-pop non-PvP server is that if you don't like the people you're with, new people are over there. On a low-pop? Better transfer, I guess. You can fuck with the economy better(you can control a low-pop easier, but you'll find counter-monopolists and idiots everywhere, and gold has less worth on a shitty server, albeit not much less) and find pugs that can do more meaningful things(but if this REALLY matters to you, just tag along to a top server to begin with.)

Also transferring now is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.

i actually really like PUGging and use the dungeonfinder and similar tools a lot and talk to people (not that it matters as we will never speak again) but ultimately in WOW everyone's a competitor who you don't directly need to carry you through content. there's no incentive to know more than 24 people (or 9, now!) and if everyone else disappeared off the universe the only consequence would be less irrelevant shit to not buy on the AH because you can just get it from your guildbank anyway.

this is speaking from a 100% not-metagame sense, i mean. if you want to meet people then yeah you can just treat WOW like a graphical chatroom with stats and shit, and that's perfectly ok and good. from the perspective of the content that's in the game and supported by the rules of the game, you don't need anyone else to exist and a lot of the time other players just stand in your way.

WOW doesn't incentivise social play very well, this has been a problem forever! It's why you look at [3] after a quest name and groan. FFXI has the opposite problem -- which is to say, it goes so far in the other direction that it sometimes BECOMES a problem, though this is MUCH less true with Abyssea, which is fucking so perfectly designed i swear. EVERYBODY RAIDS AND EVERYONE LIKES IT AND EVERY CLASS IS USEFUL (ok not DRKs*) AND SOMEHOW IT ALL WORKS.

*because they refuse to use anything besides scythes? whatever nerds

I don't know, they've improved the social play aspect of wow a lot since vanilla, and to be honest, it does help to know more than 24/9 people because what happens when 8 of them suddenly decide within 3 days of each other that they don't want to play WoW anymore?

I originally got into WoW to exclusively play with people I knew - now I get into WoW to play with people I know, but also and more importantly, people I don't know. It's hard for me to make friends off the internet. Most people just aren't interested in creating those kinds of interpersonal relationships  - or at least take those kinds of relationships out of the workplace. At least in WoW I can make some friends who I can shoot the breeze with, even if it's between pulls in a raid.

After doing six years on low pop servers, I'm honestly just kind of done with them. We literally had to drop our horde characters on Ysera altogether after a guild fallout, because there was nowhere else to go. Then the last alliance raiding guilds were dying out on Ysera earlier this year (around the time guilds started trying heroic lich king) there ended up being only one guild left that was raiding icecrown, and everyone else who was doing it was just running pugs for the first 11 bosses. We couldn't join the one guild still raiding ICC because they were getting like, 30 apps a day. I like raiding. I want to raid. And if I want to raid, I need to do it on a server that might have a 20 minute queue a few days a week for a few hours on each of those days. Big whoop.

Where do you even pretend to get this stuff, Shinra? Over half of lb was friends of friends or flat out strangers. We even had a guy reroll from alliance to join us with only ingame interaction.

Hell, Malvado, our main tank we made thunderfury for was a stranger from a pug.

he refers to the typical withering contempt for all non-LB. remind me if you do or do not usually do most of your in-game talking in [Legitimate]!

I do, but that's more of a byproduct of using vent over gchat than any particular contempt.

You know what I remember?

Not raiding ZG because we only had 17 people online and everyone was afraid 3 pugs would ruin it. Or skipping molten core because our guild alliances could only muster up 34 people.

I also remember doing five mans with 3 healers and two DPS warriors, because nobody wanted to put together a pickup group.

Let's not pretend that Malvado wasn't an exception, and that there wasn't any kind of xenophobia going on. And if you want to talk about our exceptions, a lot of shit got talked about Malvado behind his back for a while after he joined, because he wasn't from Pyoko/Finalfight and wasn't initially up to the LB's very high standards of play.

Oh please, we talked twice as much shit about you as we ever did about Malvado. Even darthnihlus, the warlock we literally cold recruited inspecting him next to the battle masters figured that out in a week.

1 Hraedon, 4 healers was simply more efficient than most other runs.
