Ctrl-T and Ctrl-N still work as fine as they ever did, guys.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

A) Use shift+click (new win) or ctrl+click (new tab), you inefficient fags.
B) https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ to edit the menu.

I want an empty new window, so I can't shift click, also I hate keyboards.

ctrl+click (new tab), you inefficient fags.

Speaking of inefficient, you're using 100% more fingers than it takes to open a new tab.

(...or own a laptop, I guess.)

When I want a new tab, 95% of the time I get it by middle-clicking on a link.

Is the "addon bar" there to temporarily support old addons that refuse to be moved?
Well they kinda didn't leave a place for add-ons to leave their icons. Firebug included a nice new button, but for non-intrusive addons like greasemonkey there's nowhere to really put it. The thinking is if it's non-intrusive then it doesn't need to be shown all the time right?

Ctrl / toggles the madness.

The add-on bar mentioned works just like the status bar in ff3 to hold icons, except that the loading ... ribbon sits on top of it.  Check under view menu

I usually use middle click for opening links in new tab (and closing tabs on the bar), but felt like it would be better to share modifier keys due to consistency. It was a stupid feeling.

Having tried Firefox 4 on 5 different platforms, I can say two things.

First: I am impressed that its GUI is significantly different on each one of them.

Second: For my personal preference, it looks best under Unity, followed by KDE, then OSX, then GNOME 3, then Windows.  Seriously, it looks stupid under Windows.  Who thought "orange rectangle" was good UI design?

Firefox felt like wasting vertical space on Windows. Thank goodness for addons.

Firefox 4 looked pretty normal in Windows XP.  After switching to Windows 7 it now looks like a big blue pile of shit.*

* Which can be pretty easily changed, but since people were discussing how ugly it is I figured I'd mention the disparity.

Anyone using Firefox 4, are you plagued by the Realplayer Browser Download Add-on? I can't get rid of it, and apparently can't even disable it.

Uninstall Realplayer, use Realalternative?

(Failing that, lmgtfy... -> http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions)

Try updating RealPlayer, which will update the extension, or disable in Firefox via "Tools -> Add-ons -> Extensions". Note: the Uninstall button is "grayed-out", as this extension is installed via the Windows Registry. To remove from Firefox, open RealPlayer, go to Tools -> Preferences -> Download & Recording and uncheck "Enable Web Download & Recording".

Glad to know that all these years later, Real Player is as horribly bad as it ever was.

Sorry you had to take one for the team like that for us to find out though. :/

Orange rectangle aside, I'm getting on pretty well with Firefox 4 at work. It still seems to hang a bit by the end of the day, but it's fast and there's a lot of browser window on show despite the wasted row up top. Annoyingly, the custom CMS we use doesn't support it yet for one function and one function alone, which means I can get halfway through a work day and then realise I need to close down what I've been working on and use IE. Dev team in Florida "is going to look in to it", which I think means "get used to Internet Explorer bro".

I miss being able to type words into the address bar and have it behave as though I'd hit I Feel Lucky on Google. Nine times out of ten it'd take me to the exact thing I needed. Having it take me to a Google search isn't unhelpful by any means, but by default Firefox 4 comes with a Google search bar five pixels to the right of the address bar, so I might be forgiven for expecting the address bar to not do the exact same thing.

That old behavior is detailed here

Basically you go to the old about:config, search for keyword.URL, and then change its value to http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&sourceid=navclient&gfns=1&q=

I think they changed the behavior for "search neutrality" or whatnot. In fact I think vanilla installs of Fx4 uses Bing as search engine.

Well, Firefox 3.6 is fucked up. Combine that with the fact my computer is slowing means it's time to switch browsers.
Switching to Chrome for speed/google is taking over my life with having an android phone and all. I downloaded it way back when it was in beta and tested it out. Kept it as back up but never used it.
Liking everything but the aesthetics. I had them perfect in FF.
Apparently, there's apps and extensions and shit to add to Chrome. That all is new since I last played with it. Installing things randomly.

Anyone have any suggestions for making the transition smoother/chrome tips?
