is the dramatic thing that everyone will look each other in the eyes and then know who has red eyes and then stab each other to death

It was a fun visit. I hope someday someone figures out what I was saying in this post. Bye!

I think I did this one before too, but I desperately want to know if I remember the proof properly.
WOLFSSSS!

2 cases

Case 1:
1 infected villager. Infected villager sees no others with red eyes and commits suicide. Game solved
Case 2:
N infected villagers. N is a member of the integers; N>1.
Each villager counts the number of villagers with red eyes that they see, named M (also member integers).
Each M will either be N or, if they are themselves infected, N-1.
Villagers will wait M days for a mass suicide of M deaths.
At the end of the Mth day the villagers will know that they are infected, because if they were not the suicides would have already occurred.
On the night preceding day N, N villagers commit suicide. Game solved.
Addendum\tip for others if Newbie decides I'm a filthy cheater for having taken a logic course:
Why the fuck did I make 1 infected a special case? That's totally unnecessary.
EDIT:

ACCORDING TO NEWBIE, THE ANSWER IS CORRECT!

CLASSIC'S ANSWER IS
CORRECT
:
A NUMBER OF DAYS WILL PASS EQUAL TO THE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH RED EYES; THAT NIGHT, EVERY PERSON WITH RED EYES WILL KILL HIM OR HERSELF
.

Um, dude, you should make CORRECT not a part of the spoiler.

Otherwise people who want to solve it themselves could have the answer spoiled for them inadvertently.
Also, you should probably decide whether or not I'm cheating by prior experience.

The best part about that riddle is the implicit assumption of everybody in the village being perfect logicians who will carry through on their suicide vows.

It's not an implicit assumption.
a testament to the villagers' logic, perception, and absolute selflessness and ruthlessness.
But yeah, I love the huge numbers of perfect logician gatherings these problems would have us believe exist.

I'm going to have to find a trove of perfect logician puzzles.

Every Utopian issue resembles an algorithm task.

Not every algorithm task resembles a Utopian issue, though.

Here's a "riddle,"
Who will volunteer to do one riddle for me?

I honestly thought having done the proof for Newbie's riddle before would disqualify me, I'm only halfway done choosing one riddle.

I'll do the other!

After much finagling, shysterism, and other chicanery, Guild has found himself the dubiously legal owner of grand mansion, with a vast front lawn. However, the lawn is completely flat and boring, with no foliage of any kind, so Guild decides he needs to buy some. He commissions a landscaper to come in and plant some trees, but he can only afford to buy 9 saplings. Feeling put out, he requests that they be planted so that there are 10 rows of three trees, each—but he's startled when the landscaper says he'll be happy to do so.

What configuration of trees does the landscaper use to satisfy Guild's request?

That's a brainteaser, not a riddle!

anyway, I think this is the answer.  Don't click if you want to figure it out yourself!  Unless I'm wrong, of course.

That's a brainteaser, not a riddle!

You're right! (Both about the part I quoted, and about your answer.) I was so excited to finally put this "riddle" archive to use that I forgot that distinction. I guess I owe you guys two actual riddles; I'll think some up and post them in the near future. In the meantime, you and Classic are up!

I think that the answer to the brainteaser is that
a specific grid of trees technically contains ten rows of trees, if you count any tree planted along a grid as a 'row.'

As it stands, Det and Classic owe the thread riddles. Unless they wish to skip, in which case I still have plenty. Let us know!

A precious gift, this,
Yet it has no end or beginning,
And in the middle, nothing.
