What do you mean Dragon Quarter punishes you? Are you talking about how it forces you to ration your godlike power?

Cyber elves are little virtual pets that you feed money to level up, then bite their heads clean off to take their powers. If you eat them you get amazing abilities but the game guilts you about it, which is why i didn't like that game at all.

Also, DQ doesn't really punish you at all, you just use SOL to level up as opposed to just rampaging around.

Maybe I was thinking of Dragon Song.  I'm almost sure it was Dragon something that crippled you in a hideous way.

That cyber elf thing sounds kind of BioShock-y, so I guess I can act all morally superior to nobody in particular for not killing fictional characters.  Until I do, which will probably be justified in some way.

I haven't played MMZ in forever but I remember the Cyber Elves were all essentially one-shot items with temporary effects.  I have a hard enough time using a potion when I need to without the game popping up and calling me a dick for it.

some of them were permanent effects, like "you can destroy bullets with your saber" or "spikes don't kill you anymore"

so yeah it's super great that you can finally beat the level but THAT POWERUP HAD A FAMILY, YOU MONSTER

You also only get powerup abilities from bosses if you get S-Rank or something close to that, using Cyber-elves lowers the maximum rank you can get, so yeah, don't kill cyber-elves, easy mode is for pussies.

The Zero games are pretty good but they are definitely up there as far as difficulty goes, and they don't really have that many spikes on their levels.

Or, as it's called in the game, "I can help out in the damage zone."

They also serve the minor functions of increasing health and giving you Sub Tanks.

...oh hey, I found the last time we had this conversation.  Two years?  Yeah, I guess we were due again.

Yeah, I'm coming down from a bad bout of shithead-dom, mostly on some other game-y, talky forum.  I think it's cleared up, though.  I'm in between outbreaks, riding bicycles on the beach and stuff.

Dragon Quarter!  I think that's the one.  I forgot it even existed, but I still remembered how irritating that aspect was.

Swooping in to yell at somebody for something they said months ago but the dragon percent thing was absolutely perfect for the game's central narrative theme of oppression and freedom and considering that it was only around the time Dragon Quarter came out that JRPGs actually started having themes and in the video game fantasy land of my mind Dragon Quarter and Planescape Torment team up to fight crime well basically fuck your eyes

This is honestly the classier move.  Somebody wisely decided that the damn thing was going right the hell off the rails without Kenji at the helm, and axed it before it became an embarrassment and a blight on a beloved series.

...

Or, you know, Capcom knew this was going to be a niche game to begin with and given its development history would be subject to nerdrage no matter how good it actually turns out to be.

Either way, this gives us a slight if rather hard to envision chance of a real Legends 3 someday instead of a steaming pile of herp derp.

Watching Talking Time freak out about this is about 50 time better than anything that would have been released.

Q.Is the cancellation of MML3 related to the departure of Inafune-san?

A. The cancellation of the MML3 project is in no way related to Inafune-san leaving the company.

Or, you know, Capcom knew this was going to be a niche game to begin with and given its development history would be subject to nerdrage no matter how good it actually turns out to be.

Is Mega Man a niche franchise?

That reminds me, I need to play some Lost Planet.

Well, that's BULLSHIT.

Seriously did they have a different Devroom than us or something? The game has looked like shit since day two.

I actually didn't go to the devroom past voting for the new femme co-star, so I have no idea why it started looking awful. Enumerating these perceived failings (in the most talking time insulting way possible) would be appreciated.
