The best part about this are the people shitting all over themselves to point out how upset Assange is over these leaks, without realizing there is a difference between leaking the personal information on a private individual and leaking confidential documents of a public government.

An important distinction, and one I keep trying to hammer into the heads of nitwits in the Cnet comments section.  It still made me laugh, though.

(I really should stop commenting on Cnet articles; it's a bad habit.  On the plus side, it has made every Google image search for my name produce pictures from Cnet instead of something where I'm wearing women's underwear.)

Manning has entered his plea: guilty on 10 counts, not guilty on the other 9 (including the biggie, aiding the enemy).

Boingboing has a roundup of coverage from various sources.

Obviously this is going to be big news in the coming weeks.

Manning acquitted of aiding the enemy, but convicted of 6 counts of espionage.

For awhile now I've felt that Wikileaks needs to jettison Assange for a variety of reasons. Chief among them seeming to be that he's a nutbag loony potential rapist , but also because Wikileaks shouldn't have a spokesman or somebody seen as their leader. Let alone one who is a nutbag loony potential rapist.

I mostly agree, but if Wikileaks doesn't have a face, then as far as the general public is concerned it might as well be Anonymous. Or, well, even more than it already is.

Did Wikileaks not jettison Assange?  It always seemed like the only person that maintained the association was Assange himself.  Even the USG almost wanted to treat Wikileaks and Julian Assange as unrelated entities.

Wikileaks being a headless organization might not necessarily be a bad thing, but I don't think it'd hurt to have a leader who projected actual civil servitude and not just trying to be a celebrity, either.

To be honest the concept has always seemed kind of gimmicky to me anyway. It's damning that Snowden not only did not go through Wikileaks, but that when he DID have some (rumoured) interactions with them and Assange, it went to shit.

I guess it is a little bit optimistic to just assume that Assange isn't an accurate representation of the group.

UK holds partner of Guardian reporter in airport under anti-terrorism laws, gives US a call "hey you guys want this dude"

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/snowden-affair-us-was-given-headsup-before-heathrow-detention-of-journalists-partner-david-miranda-8773642.html

Then orders the destruction of Guardian hard drives that may contain Snowden leaks:

http://mashable.com/2013/08/19/guardian-hard-drives/

So yeah, I can see why only unmoored blowhards like Assange would be doing this leak thing. Because the government is turning the leaker's lifes into hell.
