God damnit, waking up to this shit. Giffords is actually the congresswoman for my district, and she's been a damn good one. She's not exactly super left wing either, she's a former rodeo champ that supports gun rights, it's just the recent political rhetoric that makes her look like she's anything but slightly left of center.

Well, the body count is a fraction, but the assault on a Congresswoman is probably going to rile up the authorities.

Well, of course he's crazy.  He shot people.  That is something you only do if you're crazy.  His form of crazy was fostered and shaped by the Glenn Becks and Alex Joneses and Sarah Palins of the world, though.  His Myspace rants about the evils of higher education and the unconstitutionality of currency that isn't backed in gold or silver, and how everybody in the 8th District was illiterate.

What's this from?

I don't mean the image overall (this was Palin's "Target" graphic, correct?), I mean specifically this updated version with Giffords name checked off.

*shrug*

Here have a quote from Sherrif Dupnik of Tuscon instead:

Quote
“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous,” the sheriff said. “And unfortunately, Arizona I think has become the capital. We have become the mecca for prejudice and bigotry.”

EDIT: Oh sweet Jesus. Can you imagine what would have happened if this had taken place in Sheriff Joe's jurisdiction? :scanners:

remember when they made Taxi Driver and it went over everyone's heads completely and the reaction was either "why is it so violent ew how distasteful" or "man Robert DeNiro is such a badass I wanna be a tough guy like him"

No, I don't recall the public reaction to a film made before any of us were born.

I know it's a rhetorical question but I guess the reference just went over my head.

The stronger you punch, the better the door. So there are like super strong murderers who punch people into Venetian doors and shit"

I didn't mean just at the time. I exaggerated a bit, that half-hearted tirade was based mostly on hearing people my age say the latter and treat Taxi Driver as an "ultimate macho movie".

They put it on the shelf next to Die Hard and completely miss the parts where he's made out to be pathetic, unstable, and scary.

But these are the same people that worship Night of the Living Dead and have somehow blocked out the part at the end where it directly says "This scenario excites you because you're a violent monster"

Also, Die Hard was a deconstruction of the 80s action hero archetype.
