If only she'd had the foresight and skill to pull it out and defend herself in the half-second between realization she was going to be shot and then actually being shot.

Guess that's Democrats for you.

I'm sorry, but I have to say, anyone who thinks that someone bringing a gun to this shit would have automatically saved lives is a moron. They were in a crowded area, and while I'll be the first to say its not hard to put bullets where you want them to go, it is also not guaranteed and generally human bodies don't stop them all to well depending on the caliber. Beside which there are countless factors people never even bring up that make the whole 'if someone had a gun we'd be telling a different story' comments bullshit. Are you in sight of the gunman, is he aiming in your direction, is there people between you and him, etc, etc. I own a Glock 22 and a Berreta 96 FS personally, we also have three other guns in the house (not counting long arms), furthermore I've shot about a thousand rounds through both of my guns and even then I'm not going to act like I could actually do anything in a 'crazed gunman shooting up a public place' situation.

What do you do if your violent rhetoric comes back to bite you in the ass?

If you're Sarah Palin, Deny, deny, deny.

Both sides need to chill out with the blaming.  Partially because the guy clearly has no political affiliation other than "nutcase", and mostly because that sort of bullshit is what got us here in the first place.

Though I do take a lot of goddam issue with this.

Yes there is.

Yeah, Olbermann was drawing the "target LOCK ON" conclusion last night, and I'm sure that the right is saying "OH LOOK THE LEFTIES ARE PLAYING THE BLAME GAME"

CHILL THE FUCK OUT, EVERYONE.

Pretend I QFT'd Brentai's above post.

Olbermann did have a good point on Saturday: "Stop with the violent rhetoric.  It has no place in democracy."

Hey, that "Everyone calm down" line is great, up until someone gets shot in the head.  Nobody is trying to say, specifically, that Sarah Palin or Glenn Beck led straight to violence.  We just kind of wish that the people who keep calling for the assassination of political leaders and lefties would, you know, have some soul searching.  The right has a history of using violence as a means of suppression and to subvert democracy.  I refuse to table this issue because they feel hurt by it.

Y'know, what I find funny is that Sarah Palin, a DC outsider, said "WE NEED TO TAKE HER DOWN IN AN ELECTION", and all of the Republicans that were interviewed during the coverage, ON MSNBC, were generally saying "Gabby is good people.  We may not agree on everything with her, but she's open to working with us."  Some might call that "Blue Dog Democrat", but I think it's the nature of the US political beast.

I'm just going to ignore the "Let's get angrier" people.

Now, if you don't think the bullseye graphic was irresponsible, imagine for a moment you're Nick Joe Rahall II.  Nick is the only other currently seated congressman on that list, a Lebanese descendant living in West Virginia, and just a day before the shooting released a statement vowing to fight a repeal of the health care reform bill.

Regardless of how he's actually feeling right now, I think it's fair to say the man is being significantly threatened on account of his political standpoint and somewhat on account of his race.  I'm going to be nice and forgo using the word that most literally fits the situation.

Yeah, she contradicts her own previous message (the tweet Brent posted) where she specifically calls it a bullseye, but the article is just an interview with an aide, so I guess she still has the opportunity to backpedal the backpedal.

Jesus Christ, still though, what a sad sack of spineless shit.

I mean, not that I should be surprised. But hey, Stalin will be loved forever by half of Russia no matter how many of their relatives he killed, simply because he had the balls to stay in Moscow. I guess I expected at least one of these shit-eating cartoon villains to turn out to be all badass Megatron, but so far we've just got a pile of Skeletors and Starscreams.

So the case is now officially a Federal one, with the current charges being leveled all being related to the federal employees injured and killed. No word on murder and assault charges related to the "civilians".

I keep trying to split this but I can't come up with a title less offensive than "A judge, a priest and a little girl walk into a grocery store..."
