The Party of the Century
« on: March 22, 2011, 11:28:44 AM »

Rain.

One by one, you file in, coaches creeping up the mountain to the Castle atop.

At the door you are met by a smiling butler. Something about his face gives your pause.

"Welcome, one, and welcome all!" he smiles, extending his arms. "It's been quite a while since we've had visitors, I'm afraid, and my Master is, shall we say, a bit of a recluse. He won't be joining us until the sun sets."

"What is this about!?" you demand, thrusting your invitation forward. "I was told this was an event of some import, not a foolish kid's game!"

The butler's smile does not falter. "You will see shortly, I'm afraid, yes. Though fools we all may be, this is no game."

And with that the doors slam behind you, startling your houses to run away.

"But fear not. You will not be mistreated! Indeed, if you would but follow me to the dining room..."

Intrigued, but cautious, you proceed through the entry hall and into the large, well lit dining room. A feast has been laid out. Candles flicker and dance in the light and shadows.

The butler goes to sit at the head of the table, alone, and silently extends one hand for you to sit, smiling.

The food is excellent. The wine sublime. You soon feel right at home. Pale, slender serving wenches silently attend to your every desire. Their beauty is only equal to the quality of the food.

As the sun sets, the butler stands and invites you to join him in a toast.

"To the enduring foolishness of mankind," he says through thin lips.

But before you can finish the toast, one of you leaps up onto the table.

"Enough of this cheap charade!" he says, brandishing his holy whip and cross. "Olrox, you and your master must return to the shadows whence you came!"

"Ah, my dear Belmont, do not be hasty," the butler smiles, unfazed. "All things in good time."

Suddenly, another one of your ranks jumps upon the table and shoves the hunter aside.

"Give way, human," he growls. "This wretch and his mewling master are mine to engage. Did you think your little insult would go unanswered?"

"Ah, so the dog barks," the butler says, his smile fading, brushing a bit of lint off his shoulder. "I'm amazed you mangy mutts can even properly put a sentence together. You pitiful beasts have no place in tonight's festivities. I'm afraid I'll have to... dispose of you."

Chaos erupts at the table. The wolf lunges forward toward the butler, his suit ripping down the seams as he transforms. Some people are screaming, some are reaching for weapons, others for claws.

But before the grand melee can take place, all the lights suddenly extinguish, leaving everyone in darkness.

"ENOUGH," rings out a stern voice.

A lone candle relights, illuminating a tall, pale shadow descending stone steps.

"It is time for the endless dance of darkness to commence. I will not have you upstarts ruining my party."

A wave of dizziness sweeps over you. When it passes, you are unable to remember anyone's face!

"It seems the lord of this castle has placed some sort of spell on us," someone says.

"The front door is locked," another exclaims, pulling on it.

"Then we have no choice but to engage once more, as he suggested, in the dance of darkness," you say.

It is now Day 1.

For the first day, there is no time limit so everyone can realize the game has started. I will not advance the game until everyone has posted.

The AH: (all players have 10 gold unless otherwise noted)

The Private Eye is offering his services to investigate.
Wolfsbane for 4 gold.

Thief's Glove
Scry Sucking Crystal Ball
Fog Machine

If you want to use an item the same night you win it, include actions taken with your bid.

The game begins! Good luck to all sides, and may the Guildtiger best man win!

A vote for the first voter is always a vote for a random voter. Bongo Bill.

I've made a last minute balance decision: I'm removing the Ninja from this particular iteration of the game.

The reason is that with only 20 players, the game is gonna be pretty short, and the Ninja kills two players when he uses his ability (himself and his target) so removing him should give the game more time to develop into that crazy-ass lategame we all know and love.

So, sorry, Ninja! You are now demoted to a regular innocent.

i agree that, if I am the PI, to never take a job not approved by the town at-large

there, now if everyone else says that and the PI doesn't do as ordered by the people (granting us another seer) we know the PI is a wolf

please tell me why i'm wrong and this is a bad idea, three lines or less. i realize we don't get the information, but we will know who did, and can then threaten said person with votes!

yes we will, because the PI will have chosen the person who bid to investigate the town's choice, and that person will announce that they did when oh fuck it you're right nevermind

We need people to post, but we also need people to vote. Classic was the fourth person to do the former but not the latter, and that's as arbitrary a reason for voting as any.
