Actually, it seems a console only supports one tablet controller thing at a time, and that will be the one it comes with.

So... it's basically the Gamecube/Gameboy Advance Connectivity thing again... except without the need to purchase four Gameboys.

And a touchscreen.
But WITH a need to purchase four goddamn iPad controllers.

or know four people with one whatever
Judging from the way most of the demos shown in the video had one pad and three remotes, I think they're going to be expecting the one pad that comes with the system to be the standard, with more pads being an increasing extravagance. But that's strictly speculative.

All I know is hearsay. I seem to recall seeing them demonstrate using more than one at a time, but there was an extremely authoritative-sounding quote indicating that it was strictly one per console.

General reaction from people who have actually held the thing is that it's shockingly comfortable, but might be fatiguing to use if you are using it constantly while standing up instead of sitting and resting it in your lap

So it's not so much the Super Wii as it is the Anti Wii.

The Iiw.  What we'll all be saying after the Wii.

I know that it's generally working on the Pac-Man Vs. model with very few games that use more than one tablet controller. What I'm getting at is that if you want to play Four Sword specifically, in the same way it was played on the Gamecube, you still need four of these (presumably fucking expensive or non-standalone) controllers. It is in no way a fix to what was wrong with Four Swords.

Strange that they haven't mentioned any 3DS compatablity beyond Smash Bros.

That's DSi.

I THINK WE ALL KNOW WHO WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION HERE

DSiware seems like an odd choice but I guess it's cheap to develop for and people are more likely to own one than a 3DS at this point.

I wouldn't be surprised if the tablet controller body changed quite a bit before release.

So the tablet won't be sold separately at all.

I guess that clears that up.

Nevermind, there's misinformation afoot. They haven't confirmed it one way or the other.

This is all so confusing.

IT BEGINS

Wii U has twitter built into basically every fucking aspect of it, so I hope you don't mind 140 character bites of random people's thoughts popping up on the Mario overworld.

Well, not twitter twitter but yeah.

Good job, Nintendo for making go from planning on skipping this generation to wanting to buy it in on 30 minute presentation.

I think my favourite thing is the idea that you are in a game, pause it, choose your mood, then it searches for people playing the same game with similar moods to talk with. At least, that's what the "GAME VIDEO" made it seem like, but the second mood selection bit didn't confirm or deny that.

EDIT: Actually, I think my favourite thing about the video is when they predicted everyone's reactions to their presentations and said "But I hope they mean it in a good way."

Nintendo's reporting a sales deficit, Wii U units selling less than Wii units:

http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/07/31/nintendo-financials-reveal-dire-wii-u-sales

People are like "it's marketing" but really, Wii U's lineup is anemic. The intuitive, sporty games of the Wii were replaced by bizarre Mario Party clones. The closest thing to a flagship title for a whole year was New Fucking Super Mario Bros. It seems like they wanted third party software to carry the console, but third party *hates* doing anything special for a console, specially one with a whole second screen. Meanwhile, Pikmin 3 finally came out, Miyamoto is not a young man anymore, and no Zelda or Metroid in sight.

Wii U is not selling poorly because of poor marketing, it's selling poorly because there's nothing to market.
