Kickstarter turned me down as not being creative enough. Of course what they really meant was I'm not hipster enough.

That's why you should be starting a line of hand bags made out of vintage cameras with Depeche Mode stickers on them instead of this crap.

I cringed, Bal. And then I tried to see if there was something as absurd as that on Kickstarter.

Yep.

Most feedback I can add is that some stair and ramp blocks added to the set would be helpful.

Alright, I want to make some sort of collectible, special edition block for a higher donation reward, but I can't decide on what.

My ideas so far:

An obelisk with a personalized message in relief on the sides.
A 3D campfire
An altar
A special color, such as "lava"

Any suggestions?

How huge of a pain would it be to make a generic door or archway piece?

The real reason I don't want to make hexes is because you can already buy those; seems simple enough. I mean, if this were to become a respected brand name or something, hexes would be viable, but right now it's too close to Heroscape.

Most of those actually sound like good pieces to sell normally, so I'd go with the personalized obelisk one.

I see you have inch-high ones and flat ones, but what about half-height? And, as mentioned before, ramps/stairs, a double-height doorway piece, that sort of thing. Those would all be nice to have.

Well if you want to get fancy ... that picture you've got there, those blocks look hollow.  You need to allow a little space at the bottom to fit into the block below, but otherwise there's space there.  Space to put batteries.  And a tiny fan.  And LEDs.  And attach plastic strips.  Make a neat little animated campfire.

Do you understand how terrifying the words “vibrating strap on” are for an asexual? That’s like saying “the holocaust” to a Jew.

Ooh, there's an idea. I just wanted to use that hollow space for a human-powered mechanism that could re-orient a painted cylinder to change the "texture" of a wall quickly and without too much fuss.

I discarded it because it seemed retarded.

How high are your "flat" pieces, btw? What would the costs be to make the flat pieces take wet-erase marker?

Ultimately Guild is right that hexes are a bad idea, though he's got some New Math going on there. D&D 4E is built around and more importantly BALANCED around the 1" square grid, not a hex grid.  Bursts become less powerful, blasts end up being bizarre, and it becomes harder for monsters to effectively swarm players (total of 6 available adjacent spaces in hex versus 8 in square, for a net decrease in HEX of 33%, not the other way around.)  You COULD play in hex, sure...but with square grid being more readily available in almost any format, why would you go to all the work of converting it and rebalancing around it?

All of which is a derail, of course...

Why can't you make them out of stiff foam like they make soft foam children's toys out of. Then you'd just have to die-punch a bunch of them. Might be cheaper in the short run? You'd have to run the numbers on unit production and how much a punch die costs and can produce before needing to be replaced.

My argument remains that squares are not only BETTER for 4th edition, but LESS WORK than hex, evinced by the difficulty in determining bursts and all the rules involving cover, flanking and movement as pertains to the mechanics of battle.

I've passed around the link around my tabletop friends. They thought it was neat.
It seems every guy who loves DnD also loves Legos.
