I'm perfectly happy to let Star Wars remain in my childhood, where it is still awesome.

Cameron puts it best: If you're going to go through with this stupid idea, you need to know exactly what you're doing.  Or it'll end up looking like Clash of the Titans.

The fact that they decided to do Episode 1 first means they probably do not.

It's not a confirmed scaling back just yet, but McCallum admitted it is possible if viewer demand is not as high as it would like.

...you know, we didn't actually ask for the LAST 3 editions either.

George Lucas is retiring.

Thank the maker!

You'll notice the final straw wasn't actually the absolute rejection of the viewing public, but the studios' decision to not completely bankroll his latest kerfluffle.

So yeah, George Lucas ragequits after being spit out by the studio system he had spent the last decade bending over for.  You know, the very thing he spent tooth and nail fighting against when he started.

The man's career is a tragedy in three parts.  Thank fuck it's over.

In fairness, it IS pretty infuriating that Hollywood thows money at projects like Episode I but not Red Tails.

I would so watch a movie with Han Solo, Captain Kirk, and Malcolm Reynolds.

That much pure awesome in frame would probably burn through the stock, so we'll never see it.

...and I have to repeat it here.

YOU'RE TEARING ME AH-PAHT, LUCAS!

I actually saw the trailer that was posted on that link and I thought it was a parody.

So... almost line-for-line the plot of the other sci-fi series reboot.  Huh.

One could say the worse sin than erasing the original series is trying to make Star Trek more like Star Wa-errr

Scratch that

Reverse it

Got confused there

Also also also best thing about that trailer is that like every comment is a reference to Plinkett.  Because let's face it, something is wrong with your face.

Taking all 6 movies, it's the chronicle of the rise, fall, and redemption of Anakin Skywalker.

People need to stop getting so butthurt about Star Wars.

No seriously the whining about the boxart is incredibly stupid if the point they're trying to make is WAH EVERYONE IS FROM THE PREQUELS
A) The bit about how, since it's an entire set, highlighting that it's about Darth Vader moreso than Luke & co makes sense when you make Anakin & Darth the biggest
B) There's people from the original trilogy all over the place. Moff Tarkin is right there, Obi-Wan is at the bottom below Anakin, and that's just looking a few left and right from the spine.

Also am I the only one who remembers one of the golden rules of time travel in any form of media: It rarely works? It almost always ends up screwing up the future even worse than if they let it happen?

No seriously, are we, as a people, that dedicated to screaming bloody murder at Star Wars that we have now reached a point where the official media itself says change is bad, and we call it a bad thing?

No wonder Lucas is quitting.

RE: Quit bitching.

No. The prequels are abominable. The first three movies were better before the changes.

I'm not trying to recapture my childhood, I just want to watch the movies in the format that made me love them in the first place. Star Wars has fallen so far as a franchise at this point that attaching the license to something actually makes me less interested in it. I used to want to be a Jedi in games, now I dread it. I really did not want to know that Darth Vader used to be a total bitch. Maybe that's a statement on how villains are really made or something, but I very much preferred it when he was an enigmatic figure of doom that we knew had fallen from grace somehow, but not exactly how (0 to wholesale child slaughter in about ten minutes of screen time is not the answer I wanted, had I been looking for an answer).

George Lucas shit on his own legacy, which will now be one of not being able to leave well enough alone rather than creating one of the most beloved franchises of all time.
