All the smiths are happy just doing their jobs, whether they're a stout old man, a giant, some loony wizard in a self-made prison, or a fucking skeleton.  So long as they get to pound some metal, it's all good.

I'm fairly certain that Vamos is the one who makes all the shit that the enemies in the Catacombs use.  Like those fucking wheels.

I kinda wish that were programmed in.  Like, if you kill Vamos, then all the wheel skeletons stop respawning after the next time you kill 'em.  Or, like, if you kill Andre, all the snake soldiers go jump off a fucking bridge

In the past 24 hours I've made three new characters and gotten them all up to at least blighttown.

I can not for the life of me find a good build that just makes sense. I wish I could just write it off as a diverse and well-implemented enough inventory of choices that they're all good, but no, my pvp experience has shown pretty exactingly that 99% of winners bash you in the face with the biggest sword they can find.

Originally I was going str/faith with the idea being TWoP, then WotG and Sword dance while smashing their faces. The possible weapons and items didn't seem to provide any real obvious good choices. The natural faith scaling weapons are pretty crap and all resources tend to say the same for even +5 occult.

So not wanting to sink SLs into stats I wasn't sure about I role my other option, str / int. This one was even more basic in theory. Originally the idea was solely enough str to get Moonlight, cap int boost and push defenses. Again I got distracted on the path as I heard a lot more praise for builds focusing on magic weapon / shield with more emphasis on str.

That build evolved into my most recent: dex / int with velka's rapier or Crystal Magic Weapon, plus all the soul arrow spam I can handle. Definitely requires more finesse, but I'm not convinced the payoff would be worth it.

Still just experimenting, don't care a ton about making mistakes now because this is all going towards what I'll be rolling for P.C. release. Anyone else been doing the same and have their own ideas to share?

you're gonna suck at pvp unless:

1. you know exactly what you're doing, or

2. you're either in NG+ or at the point where you can get there

i dunno, though, i'm just a fucking warrior.  level 109, 40 vit, 43 end, 50 str, some points in some other places

But yeah, my PVP realization is that for the most part the bad hacking and bullshit is really only around in invaders in regular new games. By the time you reach a point where you've got a build ready to fight, it doesn't matter what crazy amount of OP items they have because you should've gotten them naturally by now.

PVP/PVE Builds sorta go out the door after a long enough play. My main Dark Souls character is legit soul level 390+ On Fifth or Sixth newgame and he's not really specialized into anything anymore. First I was just CRAAAZY VIT/STR/ENDURANCE but then I added faith, then attunement for miracles and pyromancy. Closest thing he is now is paladin I guess/ High enough faith to use all miracles, 60 str, 45 vit, 45 endurance High attunement(8 slots). With some nice pyromancy backup. That stated, I don't actually do huge PVP. When I get invaded I usually find ways to troll people. It's my only goal. Stand on top of ladders and kick them down. Use my dragon bow or 3 shot cross bow to knock them off things. Run around naked casting miracles. I never really just straight up fight someone. I only win probably 1/3 invasions but every time I win it's via something so trolly it makes people rage on me pretty hard.

The problem with mega-high souls levels is that that's not where the competition is. Most builds will point you at SL70 or SL120 for NG and NG+ respectively, because that's kind of the butter zone for action that everyone aims for, and it does force you to have a build.

Yeah, my 120 soul level build is Str/dex katana with pyromancies. I'm not horribly good or bad, my success rate is probably 45% or less on invasions. I like PVP but I don't like being mean to people and I feel bad after killing them. So I don't PVP much, I feel especially bad when I invade and I end up getting some random mook you can tell is just out doing the single-player game and happens to be in human form. On my high soul level guys I troll like a dick when I get invaded. Key to that is I never invade people, only act like a dick while defending.

Well, given that you're at SL 390, you'd only invade people even higher than that, unless you're in the forest hunters.
