In the Age of Ancients, The court was unformed, shrouded by fog.
A land of grey hoops, empty bleachers, and everlasting referees.
But then there was B-ball. And with B-ball came Disparity.
Dunks and three-pointers, fouls and free throws, and of course... Slams and Jams.

I've been playing Demon's Souls again, just to go back and have a bit of a different experience, and I'd forgotten some of the really awesome and bizarre shit about this game, and also some of the things that are missing, or totally different. Like weapon upgrades. Holy shit is that expensive. Want any high tier weapon upgrades? Hope you fucking love lizards.

At any rate though, this game still holds up, much better than I would have thought given how ambitious Dark Souls was by comparison, and I suggest going back to anyone who's spent a lot of time in Lordran.

There were definitely some quality-of-life changes between the two, but yeah DeS is just a really solid, good game.  Arguably nails atmosphere a bit better, in some parts.

I think there a definitely certain high points in terms of atmosphere that out do just about everything in DaS, like 3-2 for instance. They also managed to make you feel more connected to the bosses, both in terms of the overall story, because they are greater demons and killing them is part of the whole point, but also in terms of the personal histories of the bosses themselves. In terms of actually fighting them though, I think DaS is a step ahead, to the point that these feel easy now.

Maneaters, Flamelurker, and False King remain pretty nightmarish, so long as you're fatrolling.  The proper dodge is pretty godlike compared to what you have in DaS.

False King is still kind of a prick regardless, but he's not the brick wall I remember back when.

I was able to beat Man-eaters and false King on my first try each, and Flamefucker on my second try. Compared to soloing Oreo and Smores, or Manus, it's just not at the same level. The one thing that did give me trouble is Doran, because he's just an unrelenting badass. I never fat rolled at any point in this play, though, because that is part of knowing better.

False king never was really hard for me. I don't ever remember him taking me longer than 2 tries. He telegraphs his attacks like the anime he is.

False king has one really dangerous attack, which is his untelegraphed, sudden as fuck jumping slash. He often does it as a sort of counter attack, and it is extremely difficult to avoid sometimes. Fortunately it is short range and being far away from him is the best strategy, so it doesn't matter. Oh, I didn't see it this time, but he also has an endless melee combo that does some kind of magic damage so severe that even Dark Silver Shield + ring of magical dullness isn't enough to save you. That shouldn't come up either, because as stated, just stand away from him until he charges up his AoE, and then club him to death.

 DeS phantoms of other online players is better. I feel the whole 'Alternate realities' vibe comes through better than the  DaS phantoms. Especially in the boss arenas.

The thing about that is that with DeS we're all on the same server, so if there is anyone there at all, no matter where they're playing from, you will see their phantoms, messages, and soul signs. Whereas with DaS, it's peer-to-peer, and the netcode sort of floats you around these miniature networks of people who become available to your for various online behaviors. This is why you'll see, even now, a message in DeS with 1000+ recommendations, where in DaS one with recommendations in the double digits is rare.
