I'd like to hear your opinion on Flamelurker and Maneaters, once you get to them.

But largely yes, learning how to deal with what the bosses have going for them can make them a bit trivial.  Having already played DaS teaches you most of what you needed for DeS.

Should mention I haven't played DaS either.

I don't have a lot of perspective on this anymore, but I think you will find Flamelurker, Man-Eater, maybe Old Monk (this fight is extremely variable), and possibly Old King Allant more challenging. Most of the bosses in DeS are less difficult than the trek to reach them.

I'd like to hear your opinion on Flamelurker

Me too, but I only got up to his door and then shut the game off for a while to do some work (because I have at least two full days' worth to do this weekend), and WHOOPS I GUESS TIME'S UP ON THIS GAME.  So we'll know once I score a cheap used copy, I guess.

I can't play games I enjoy any more without being reminded that my hobby does not welcome working professionals.  Agh.

Turns out PSN gave me the 30 minute warning a day early, sooooooooo...

Flamelurker

Down in one try in Soul Form*.  I'm not going to get all cocky and say he was actually easy, but I figured out how to get around him pretty quickly.  Having a Large Brushwood Shield (and enough Endurance to be carrying around a Large Brushwood Shield) probably made a huge damned difference.

Still, I'm definitely in agreement with Bal about the bosses in this game being satisfying kills.  Tower Knight, Vanguard, Red Dragon, Fool's Idol, Armor Spider, and now Flamelurker because he was so damned hyped up all gave me a tingly feeling, which is strange because even the ones that legitimately killed me only did so once or twice, as opposed to ramming into some gimmick Final Fantasy boss like a dozen times and only feeling a mild relief once he finally goes away (looking right the fuck at you, Zombie Seymour).

On a less interesting note, the fight left me with a soul count of exactly 30,000, which is a nice way to leave off for a while.

* The only reason I was in Soul Form is because I tried to chase a lizard off a cliff.  I fucking hate lizards.

New trailer!

DARK SOULS 2 - I AM UNDONE

Tragically, mere exposure to the Microsoft keynote was enough to infect it with a severe case of Buttrock.

The march down the hall full of living statues with a fog gate at the end was pretty amazing. Also they were probably trying to evoke the success of this trailer

Pay for online play will hurt DS2 some since the big appeal is just busting your way into someone's game for a fight, but we'll see.

It'll be fine, cause we don't have to pay on a PC.

It's also unclear whether paying for multiplayer will encompass all of PSN, or just PS4. Dark Souls II is not next gen, so if PS3 multiplayer is still free in March next year, it's no problem.

More DS2 details.

-Coop/Competetive 4 player online multiplayer returns
-Can carry 3 weapon sets at once
-Can warp between bonfires from the start of the game
-No selectable character classes; character class is generated for you based on physical parameters you choose in the improved character creation
-Can still delegate stats as you see fit in order to play the way you want
-Controls largely identical; biggest core gameplay change the addition of functional dual wielding
-Enemy AI improved to be more reactive/aggressive; will often fight multiple enemies in a single encounter
-Mirror Knight boss featured in trailer has Old Monk style online mechanic; it releases NPC enemies from its shield that, if you play online, could be other players

It's only required for PS4 online titles.

BTW guys, I was trying DSCFix out today with some friends and it is amazing. For such a tiny mod I wasn't expecting a lot, but it gives summon priority to people on your GFWL friend list, so I could get summoned by my buddy pretty much instantly every time. If anyone's still playing this game, they should install it and hit me up for play, I'm pretty much always up for Sen's Funhouse.
