Not really. Invading claims to have rules but it's all really just a crap shoot. If you invade you will get matched up with almost anything. I've seen people testing it invade at 400 and get soul level 40s or 70s get soul level 300+. The places where you get the most STANDARD souls levels are in Forest and Kiln of the First Flame because those are unoffical PVP areas so most people do their 70-120 PVP there but if you're just running around in human form other places you can get invaded by most anything.

Painted World is a huge hotbed for all forms of multi-player interaction as well. People love to farm it co-op, because of how straight forward it is, and because there's so many people in there, invasions are pretty constant too. The only thing that doesn't really work there is the consensual invasions like red soapstone and dragon covenant, just because that's not where people go to PVP on purpose unless they're the aggressors.

Hey Bal, I hope you're ready for some rage:

"At this moment, I kind of feel sorry for console gamers," From Software's Lead Director Hidetaka Miyazaki said through his translator as he explained that the roughly three new areas, four new bosses, a few more NPCs, all their equipment, and a basic PvP area wouldn't likely come to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 anytime soon.

This comes after them saying that the PC version is going to have locked framerate and 720p display, no keyboard/mouse support, games for windows live and other bullshit. =(

At this point close to nothing is going to deter me from getting this game. Because I want the Souls series to have a future on the PC with proper work put into it rather than just a port. The only way to do that is to show Bandai-Namco there's an audience for it on the PC with the Dark Souls port.

So it's going to be kind of mediocre, for sure! I expected that really. They don't have experience with this sort of thing, and pieces of Dark Souls' controls are going to be somewhat difficult to translate to PC.

WHY THE FUCK NOT?! They are clearly fucking retarded. I guess they've just decided that they hate money, especially in the form of the Yen.

i guess they think that they can just make more by forcing current fans to buy it on PC

when they realize that's incorrect they'll probably release the PtD edition as a whole new disc for the consoles, i bet.  like the trillion versions of SF4

I can't speak for the Ps3, but apparently it costs a substantial amount of money to patch on the Xbox. Short of releasing it as for-pay DLC, it is probably not financially feasible on the xbox to release it, and there may be other things causing them to not release it as DLC, such as infrastructure issues with tacking content onto the console version. If they have to patch the game to apply DLC to it, that means paying Microsoft for the right to patch their software, which From simply may not be willing to do.

Yeah, I think it was Mortal Kombat where they put the entirety of their balance numbers into a text file or something specifically so it would be under the limit of a "full patch" so they could release hotfixes and bypass Microsoft entirely.

I get the logic behind Microsoft's position on it. They don't want internet connectivity to be the excuse game developers use to release unfinished games on their platform and release patches to shore up the bugs. It's a problem that's plagued PC game development for many years, (Since Dark Sun II or earlier) and is not one that really needs to be introduced for consoles. Having said that, when you decide to do something later on down the road, like release new content when you'd never planned to, and you have to patch the game to put that ability in, it's really just acting as a profit deterrent more than anything else.

I was pretty obviously implying that it should be paid DLC. New areas, bosses and characters this long after release? You'd be stupid not to charge, because you've obviously spent money making the new content. I just want the "Prepare to Die" pack or whatever on PSN and XBLA. When I was referring to hating money in Yen form in particular I was referring to the fact that Dark Souls was ONLY released on PS3 in Japan, and that the Japanese PC market is as non-existent as it has always been.

I guess it'd be out of the question to wait until anything has been confirmed either way to start throwing tantrums?

The main question everyone has had since the announcement is whether console owners will get the extra content created for the PC release – perhaps as DLC. Namco's response to this has been, let's say, ambiguous. For Miyazaki's part, he said From Software had nothing to say at this point. "It's completely understandable that people who bought the console version have those questions. However, as the director of Dark Souls I cannot answer your question right now. I want to apologise to console owners that I don't have any news at this point."

Moving on, it seems Dark Souls on PC will not support any sort of user modification or editing – unlike, say, Skyrim with its creation kit. "Personally, I am interested in the concept of Mods," said Miyazaki. "However, due to our lack of experience with the PC we need more time to adapt to what PC gamers want from mods. So this time we're not doing it."

I hope this turns into something great. A Souls game with mods would be pretty awesome.

As much as I love fan mods, I'm not sure how long it will take for a canon of "the good ones" to shake out and make the multiplayer viable.

As much as I love Dark Souls, I'm not willing to have to download one of a million different nude mods for every world I invade.

If you don't invade them despite the nude mods, you are letting the babies win.
