You know what's funny about 300? It was just a remake of an earlier film and a comic that was orginally printed in Blazing Combat, both of which date to Frank's younger years in the 60's.

The profound irony here being that Blazing Combat was a comic so anti-war it was squashed by John Wayne. Evidently young Frank wasn't too worried about learning the book's message there.

thanks for giving me another reason to ostracize, humiliate and insult anyone who likes "The Dark Knight Returns"

Er, the book that depicted Reagan as a fascist keeping Superman in his back pocket to use against anyone who stirred up too much trouble?  Yeah, real right-wing propaganda, there.

I think it's fair to say that Frank "Something Worse than Thieves and Murderers" Miller used to be much different than this... this... this something worse than thieves and murderers.

I believe he was mugged in the early 1980's and has been on a long, slow slide into reactionary paranoia ever since.  "A conservative is a liberal who's just been mugged" indeed.

Meanwhile, in Buffalo:

Quote
Don't think for a moment that the people behind Occupy Buffalo, the local movement headquartered in front of City Hall and inspired by Occupy Wall Street in New York City, aren't thankful to have had their voices heard in recent weeks, and for the ability to camp out in some very public quarters. As a way to say thanks, members of the group will celebrate Buffalo Police Appreciation Day today by marching to two police buildings to thank officers for their cooperation. The group notes that after going for more than a month, there have been no arrests or injuries during the peaceful Buffalo protest.

See, guys?  It can be done!

A fascist who literally draped himself in the flag, no less.

Oddly, here's something from io9 from last week:

We didn't hear back from Miller in time for our article's deadline, but now he's gotten back to us. Through his PR reps, Miller said:

Quote
Batman would respect the first amendment.

Then, after a couple days, Miller's PR reps wrote to us again and said Miller wanted to change his answer to:

Quote
Batman believes in the First Amendment and decorous behavior.

Of course, it's entirely possible for the "how would Batman respond" answer to be different from the "how would you respond" one (as indeed Denny O'Neil stated in the original piece), but (1) Miller uses Batman every hero he writes as a gigantic Mary Sue, and (2) he stated outright in the blog entry that he doesn't consider Occupy to be a First Amendment exercise, which would render his "First Amendment" phrasing somewhat moot.

Basically it sounds like Miller's politics are literally changing from one day to the next at this point.

EDIT: Ty Templeton responds.  Comments section is actually worth reading!

EDIT 2:
Frankmillerink.com is a great link if you like absolute bullshit.

Instead of yet another Republican debate I would pay money to see Frank Miller, Steve Ditko and Harlan Ellison debate the issues of the day.

Oakland protesters "peacefully evicted" by being surrounded by scores of armed policemen.

See nomally we'd call that kind of action an "occupation" but I guess that would be a little confusing.

Denver, Salt Lake and a bunch of little ones have been shut down too, so I guess at this point all we can do is shrug and say "So much for free assembly."

It was all fun while it lasted.  Or so my parents tell me.

More from CNN.

Thing is, I don't see what's to stop them from going back.  How long can you control a location with police in riot gear?

Obviously if there are health and safety issues -- and we've got cases of people dying and accusations of sexual assault -- then those need to be investigated, and prosecuted if necessary.  And I've got no problem with arresting people who have actually, you know, done something wrong.  But at the point where the riot gear comes out, we've pretty much left the point of having a reasonable dialogue.

More from CNN.

Quote
In Salt Lake City, police said on Twitter that 19 people were arrested Saturday night as authorities moved in to clear an Occupy Salt Lake encampment at a downtown park.
Police had ordered protesters to leave the park after a man was found dead late Thursday night. The cause of death was thought to be carbon monoxide poisoning and a drug overdose, CNN affiliate KSTU reported.

I have a feeling that the man's death wouldn't have made the news if he were curled up in a box in an alleyway.

If I didn't know any better I'd say that local authorities are actually worried about a popular uprising.

Wow. What the fuck. That one guy just started beating on that kid. I mean, that one kid isn't exactly being "passive" in response to the beating, but he's easily 20 pounds lighter than the guy who's body checking him with a nightstick.

In the police's defense though, Mr. Haas is basically a ninja.

EDIT:

Also the main show of police brutality isn't the guy who starts the beating, or the guy just to his right who starts beating on a woman who's turned her back to them. It's the guy who falls to the ground as three or four cops beat him in the lower left of the screen.
