I haven't read Doom's link in full yet, but would like to point out a bit of an issue with the lead-in (regarding the Chapel Hill police). While they did arm and armor themselves to clear a vacant building and no crime more severe than protesting was taking place there, this was the same group who have been holding meetings to "burn Greenbridge [a fairly affordable, but multimillion-dollar supergreen condo complex that just went up in the their neighborhood] to the ground" for months, and just two months ago actually broke into the bottom floor of Greenbridge with bricks and started breaking and burning things from the art and retail spaces which occupy the ground level.
They were all evicted from their rented homes shortly after because they stopped paying their rent as a nonviolent protest against the gentrification of their neighborhood and were squatting the unoccupied building, still holding their meetings at the Internationalist, and still spreading their nihilist attitude as well as ever. While the cops turned out not to need their riot gear or anything, they were certainly justified in wearing it into a dark, vacant building occupied by previously violent protesters.
