The floor slopes downward toward the back. Stalactites poke up in places, some with white crystals embedded on them.

Something else glints from the floor in the mist at the back of the cavern. It looks large and rectangular.

Briar gathers up the dead man's gold into her own money pouch, leaving behind a handful of coins to pay the ferryman. She looks around the misty cave and spots the oblong glinting shape on the floor.

"See that?" she whispers to the others, pointing it out. "Could be a trap. Cover me." She moves from stalactite to stalactite, zig-zagging closer to the object.

Francisca hides behind a stalactite and readies her crossbow, having never used one before, she loaded the bolt in but forgot to draw the string back.

The floor slopes so that by the time you reach the box you're up to your shoulders in the fog. Up close, you see that it's a large wooden treasure chest, held together with iron bands and ornately inlaid with gold. It's stood on a sort of simple stone altar. This chest alone must be worth 50 gold pieces. There's a hook where it looks like a padlock has been broken off, and it's stained with dry blood.

Everyone in the cavern can roll Perception.

You hear the skitter of tiny creatures in the crevices in the walls.

Briar begins to slowly back away from the wall to the others.

You didn't hear it, but when Briar runs you know there's something there.

"There's something in the walls. It sounds like spiders," she says quietly once she rejoins the others. "I bet we could flush 'em out with some fire."

Francisca looks worried. "Spiders? How many spiders?" She looks over at vivi. "Might be a job for you."

"I dunno, lots," Briar shrugged. "I didn't have time to count 'em. There's also a fine-lookin' chest near the wall, but it's got some blood on it. Could be trapped. Any suggestions?"

"Ampersand would probably know his way around traps, I'd imagine."

Suddenly, a ghostly roar echoes through the cavern. It's so loud that even the people outside can hear it. From in the cavern, the roar seems to come from every direction and its source isn't visible.

There's a skitter of tiny scratchy feet through the tunnels that line the cavern. Suddenly, you're set upon by tiny humanoid creatures made entirely of twigs.

Everyone but Francisca wins initiative.

Francisca's lantern is the only light source, but it's sufficient to light the entire cave. Anyone outside the cave who wants to make it to the cavern, at least one of you has to pass a DC15 Perception check or you get lost in the caves, and at least one of you has to carry a light source. It'll take two rounds to make it to the entrance of the cavern. Also roll a DC15 Perception check when you arrive at the room.

"Gah!" Briar shouts as the creatures attack. "It's worse than spiders!" She charges at the group to the east, swinging her axe like a mad woodsman.

Vivi glares at the little twig blight nearest her, which clearly curses it, but doesn't trigger a hit as she misses her Eyebite. She then backs away at least three squares for concealment.

(Still here and somewhat active. Pitamaha and I can be moving together with him holding whatever light source he's got.)

Shortly after finishing his daily trance and before his post-trance-nap Pita moves to Ampersand and says a bunch of things that don't seem to be in the right order to Amp before heading into the mouth of the cave.

Following in, Ampersand expects to be easily lost in the maze but finds the layout to be much more reminiscent of a dungeon. Complete with treasure and traps, it's a lot easier to find your way when someone is good enough to leave a trail only along the path they don't want you taking.
