<beatbandito> just climbing back up, being like "yo shit's trapped, use arcana" and get back into position behind the throne?
<JDigital> Yeah, you could do that.
<beatbandito> okay cool, ignore that roll than.

All that just happened.

You gained enough XP after fighting Sigilus to gain a level. Do you want to level up now, or wait until after this encounter?

(I was thinking people may want a map of the encounter area so we know exactly what we're dealing with. That way the group can get the shaman's attention from the top of the ladder, or try to get down the ladder to disarm the trap first with Ampersand in the field to try and hold him back.

Though, if everyone is going to disappear for a week regardless might as well take the time to level up.)

Okay, here's the layout.

It's a huge chamber. Kalor sits half-asleep in a throne on the right, one of a ring of empty thrones in the room. Monodrones are dotted around the edge of the room. The Godhammer machine rises in the centre.

Hovering through the room are three pyramid shaped modrons with an eye in each face. Each tridrone is plated a different colour. Each has three arms, and each hand clutches three sharp javelins.

You're at the south of the room on a ledge forty feet up. See the column of "<" symbols at the right? That represents the ladder vertically. The actual ladder is left of Ampersand there. The ladder on the right is necessary to represent that square in 3D.

Very important information before you begin:

Level up first. Send me your character sheet by the usual means.
Climb rules: You move at half speed while on the ladder. You grant combat advantage. You can't take any action that requires both hands.
Falling rules: 1d10 damage per ten feet. A drop from your current height is 4d10 damage. If you take any falling damage you land prone. If trained in Acrobatics, you can subtract half an Acrobatics roll from falling damage.
You have at least one action point left. You can only use one per encounter.
This encounter will conclude this chapter of the campaign. It might even conclude the campaign, depending how things turn out.

Gus is in. Doom and Bongo, level your doods to level 5.

Meanwhile, now's a good time to plan tactics, if you wish. This could be a difficult encounter. Room layout is here.

So since Ampersand was able to get into position behind a throne because of his stealth check, I'm assuming that means one of the three closer thrones, since any of the rest would require he pass by 7, 8 or 9.

None of those seem like great positions unless I can get an attack of opportunity or two off on guys passing by when the rest of the crew descends the ladder. So on that note, how exactly does cover work with stealth? Is that superior cover and I'm safe? Or partial cover so anyone looking in that direction would see me? And does my stealth check play any part in how hidden I can be behind partial cover?

789 have their backs to the entrance, and with your Stealth result they don't hear you.

However the silver Tridrone (s) has all-round vision, meaning you need at least partial concealment or cover to remain hidden from him. If you approach from the bottom of the ladder you can make it as far as the southmost throne. (Actually, to account for what I previously said: there's a dark spot between the ladder and the southmost throne; the rest of the room is well lit by torches on the walls and pillars.)

The tridrones appear to have a blind spot from above or below. They haven't noticed the others at the top of the ladder.

Also, the rune trap works by Perception, so a good Stealth will bypass it for you but not for the others.

The only reason I didn't take it out myself is because the last one went so well. If no one has a much better mod in arcana than my +12 for thievery I guess I might as well try though. It seems like combat will have started by the time anyone else gets in range to disarm it themselves.

Then again, how smart is a rune trap? If someone dropped something down the ladder would that set it off?

Alternately, what if a monodrone ran through? Can it tell friend from foe?
