The situation is in my favor, eh? We'll just see about that. Stealth result of 13! Vivi follows Briar and there's only moderate odds that she bangs her shin against one of the ladder's bars and makes a sound.

You bang your head loudly on a rung. It looks like nobody heard you over the sound of clanging machinery.

Ampersand, Francisca, Pitamaha: You may only have a short amount of time to take up positions in the room before the tridrone guard returns to his post.

You can pick your position, and then you get a surprise round before initiative is rolled.

Ampersand was in place behind the south-eastern most throne as everyone was getting down the ladder. When Vivi banged against the wall he jumped out from his hiding spot, worrying he may lose another chance. Sliding past the platinum tridrone (and probably triggering an AoO [which he has 21 AC against]) he swings for Kalor to grapple him but can't get a proper grip. Pressing his sword into Kalor's side he manages to pull the orc from the throne and tosses him towards the hammer. As Kalor lands just short of the button Ampersand starts cursing.

"Ever since we heard about the hammer I've wanted to toss someone into it, and I miss the opportunity by this much!" His fingers pinch together an amount only the tridrone would be able to see from that position.

"Gods damnit now this machine is going to kill me and for nothing. I hate this trip."

Francisca and Pitamaha, want to pick a position somewhere in the bottom left quarter of the map before Ampersand makes his attack? You can also stay up on the ledge if you wish.

Can Gus react to Ampersand, or should I wait for initiative?

You have a surprise round in which you can take a standard action before initiative is rolled. (All enemies grant combat advantage during the surprise round.)

However, it's too late to stop him launching his attack, he's done it already.

Stopping him would involve calling out or shooting him or something, and that'd give us away anyway, so eh.

Kalor is standing on the Godhammer because of Ampersand's shift, right? And Ampersand is now near the controls? If we can activate it before he moves, it'd squash him?

Yes. However, the activation button is below Godhammer. Whoever activates it would be crushed themselves.

Francisca climbs down the ladder after the others, not feeling very safe being 40 feet up, finding somewhere to hide behind vivi and briar.

Each of you has a surprise round of one standard action before initiative is rolled. You have combat advantage against all opponents, and they can't make opportunity attacks against you.

Gus fires a Phantom Bolt at Kalor. It's not the best aim he's ever done -- and a damned good thing he's off-balance from Ampersand's surprise attack. (16 on the dice +2 for combat advantage is a hit on Kalor's Will, but just barely.) Kalor takes 11 psychic damage from the bolt, and shifts one square to the left -- right onto the Godhammer trigger plate.

Gus hopes. Kalor is off-balance and reeling a bit, so maybe he'll stumble onto the plate and smash himself to paste. That's the plan, anyway.

Kalor stumbles onto the trigger plate beneath Godhammer. The amethyst block hurtles at the ground.

Kalor takes 25 damage.
Kalor is stunned and prone.

(Wow, 10d6 damage and six of those were '1's.)

Briar, Vivi, Pitamaha still have a standard action each before initiative is rolled.

Does that include movement? I'm trying to get a sense of what's in the realm of possibility here. Briar really wants to gut Kalor. How close can she get to doing that?

You can start your turn anywhere southwest of the trash pile ($), but you only get a standard action or a move, not both. Unless you spend an action point for an extra standard action.

Briar dashes past the thrones and drones. "Kalor!" she roars, marking him. "Vaur'cha's pit awaits you!"

(I'll use an action point) She swings her axe in a Wicked Strike.

Quote
Wicked Strike
1d20 +10 > 19
14 + 10 = 24 ... success

Quote
Damage
1d12 +8
8 + 8 = 16

(pretty sure that's enough to kill him after the squashing he got)

The chains lift the cube quickly after it falls, and Briar's axe decapitates Kalor's mortally wounded body. Black ethereal vapours rise from the body and darken the amethyst cube.

A deep laugh echoes through the chamber. Kazrac looks around, trying to pinpoint the source. The voice speaks.

"Exactly as planned. My spirit possesses this grand gemstone now, and here I wait until the End of Time, when the Shadow is freed from his chains and darkness rules the earth."

Every modron in the room spins around at once to face the intruders.

"And these automatons," the voice booms, "shall be more than enough to destroy you... whereupon they will resume their work turning the Gears of Time. Once the gears are properly calibrated, Godhammer will forward the world an aeon in a single stroke."

"But I shall give you a chance, mortals. Sit in one of the thrones and join me in this cube. When the darkness falls, we shall be as gods, and shape the new world in your own image. You would not be the first mortals in history to do so."
