The story is known in the Common language as the Deeds of Derke Taarsen, an account which depicts the dwarven deity as a mortal who travels the world performing twenty heroic acts. His temples often include engravings which his followers meditate over and take as a guide to leading their life.

However, there are marked similarities between this and a tale told of the deity Catharsus. Prior to the unification of the southern Renvale province under the church of Catharsus approximately four hundred years ago, there was a belief that Catharsus was once a mortal, a human who ascended to deityhood. This belief was stamped out, but some expert scholars of religion still remember it.

"Some story about a dwarf named 'Derke' something." He said in a low voice.
"Never mind that. What're we going to do?" He gestures to the dwarves. "Ambush? 'less on of you thinks you can sweet talk a dwarf?"

Ampersand listens at the door and tries to look ahead for any signs of recent action
(perception 16 + 5 = 21)

before entering the room as quietly as possible
(stealth 13 + 11 = 24)

picking the lock first if necessary

Ampersand: The room is silent. Inside, it's still completely dark. You can't tell how large the room is or what's in it. The smell of blood and earth is stronger here.

Everyone else, what are you doing?

[That's what I was planning on doing, Just like to make sure i'm not blundering ahead and messing things up for everybody else first.]

Francisca looks around, then steps forwards into the light, clearing her throat, and spreading her arms to show she's unarmed. "Excuse me, gentlemen, I apologise for the intrusion, but I have some questions to ask."

(Rolling Diplomacy for Francisca: 18)

The dwarves stop their ritual. The robed figure, a very old grey-haired dwarf lays his hammer reverently on the anvil and turns to face you with a polite smile.

"Groten arc dakler vir-- ah, I see you aren't dwarves. Have you wandered here from the festival? I'm afraid we're in the middle of a ritual... although I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, especially if you're willing to make a small donation to the temple upkeep."

The other two dwarves look nervous. They're definitely the two Pitamaha saw in the tavern next to the elf in a black cloak.

[Can't really get to this room without going past their guards. Maybe play dumb about the undead, get some clues out of them.]

Francisca smiles warmly at the dwarves, speaking in dwarven, "I would love to make a donation, of money, or books, if you'd take them, but unfortunately, that is not why I am here. We have been sent by the paladins of catharsus to enquire about the sword, but my investigations haven't been able to reveal your intentions, and I would like to get your side of the story, if that's at all possible."

She adjusts her monocle. "Sure, there may be glory in battle, but I honestly prefer an outcome where both sides get what they want."

"There is much wisdom in your words," replies the robed dwarf. "Unfortunately I'm afraid I don't know of a missing sword."

He turns to the other two.

"Farkas, Durvar. Do you know anything of this missing Carthasian sword?"

The two dwarves step forward.

"No," says one.

"Actually," says the other, "now that you mention it, I did see forge-master Urkas with a sword. It never occurred to me that he might have been stealing it. He left last night for Rothton in the north. He's probably miles away by now."

Francisca crosses her arms, "That's not good.. What about Bthur, Daim and Oster, if you don't mind me asking? The temple blacksmith said that they went missing along with Urkas, and these two fine gentlemen." She says, gesturing towards Farkas and Durvar.

"I'm afraid I haven't seen those people recently. I only returned today from a pilgrimage," says the priest.

"Me neither," says one dwarf.

"Maybe the went with Urkas," says the other.

Francisca rubs her chin and looks at the others, then turns back to the dwarves. "Well.. I apologise for intruding like this.. Do you know where Urkas may have gone to in Rothton? Any relations or friends?"

"Er, no," says the dwarf. "Not really. I bet he's off selling that sword to someone for money. Rothton is the capital of Rothdar territory, you see. I imagine he's evading Catharsus' men there."
