[I dunno if intimidation is really the way to go, I mean, we don't want to start a fight if we screw it up. Does anyone else get insight checks if they're around me?]

Yes, anyone else nearby can roll Insight checks if they wish.

Ampersand: The light reveals the room to be a long, narrow chamber. The room is full of rusty suits of dwarven armour, standing along the walls. At the far end is a shelf with pieces of cloth, incense containers and various tools and implements. The floor is covered with dirt. There is a smell of blood in this room.

[Yeah, sure, why not.]

Briar eyes the two suspiciously. She recalls them from the tavern but doesn't want to say anything yet. She starts to think...

Briar: The two dwarves are lying, and they know more than they're saying. The priest seems to be telling the truth, as far as you can tell.

If nothing of interest stands out in the pile of tools or about the armor (16 + 5 = 21) then he heads back into the hall, still weary of traps or more secrets.

(or if there wasn't supposed to be anything down this hall at all I guess he walks into a wall and turns around)

Briar nudges Fransisca and Vivi. "They're lyin'," she whispers, nodding at the two dwarves. "Me 'n the elder saw them in the tavern, with some shifty-lookin' elf. Maybe lean on 'em a little, see if they squeak."

Ampersand: There's nothing of interest among the items, although the heavy incense containers could probably be sold for a few gold. Further north along the corridor, stairs lead downward. There is a wide chamber at the bottom, and it's lit with a faint, flickering light.

Francisca nods, turning back towards the dwarves, pointing at them, "My friend here says that you two are lying, and that you know more than you're letting on, Now, i've treated you with respect, i'd like for you to do the same. Because if we don't have respect for eachother, well, everything starts to go downhill! We'll all end up in a place we don't want to be, and i'm sure you all don't want that, I certainly don't."

[Rolling intimidate, got 16, vivi should go for it too.]

Balancing the torch on the top of the stairway, Ampersand descends into the wider room, investigating every bit to the best of his gold-sniffing abilities.

Vivi dramatically ducks in under Franny's pointing arm and holds her own hands up to the sides of her eyes, making little horns with her index fingers. That's right.. Triple Horns. "We were hired by the church of The Avenger! You could probably guess how likely it is that we're allowed to live up to a name that great!" Vivi bares her teeth, most of them are pointed except for the one that is dulled from nicking coins to check if they're real. Then she lets out a hiss and a melodramatic roar! "They hired a witch to eat.. er.. beat you if you lie! That's me!"

Beards are probably really chewy and gross, Vivi reflected. But she kept up the snarl because sometimes philosophy has to wait until you're in the middle of the woods and a coyote is willing to listen.

Francisca: The dwarves glance at the team of armed men and women blocking their exit and get the message. Farkas, the first dwarf, lets out a sigh.

"Alright. Urkas Berg had us help him steal the sword. We asked him why, but he wouldn't say. He took it to this temple and asked us to watch out for spies until nightfall. He and the others are further on in the temple."

The robed priest looks surprised. "Theft is not the way of Derke Taarsen. I commend your honesty at last, though. Miss Francisca, I should point out that our high priest Belvar Ovrak is also deeper in the temple."

"I have no idea what they are doing with the sword," says Durvar, the second dwarf. "Urkas and the other four were already in on it when we found out. They're old war comrades from the dark elf invasion of twenty years ago. They paid us a hundred gold worth of gemstones each to keep it quiet."

The priest glares at the dwarves. They at once take out small leather purses from their belts and hand them over to you.

"Please, accept this as our apology." The purses contain a total of 20 cut opals worth 10 gp each.

"Please convey our temple's deepest apologies to the paladins of Catharsus," says the priest. "I assure you that we will deal with these individuals most strictly. Head priest Ovrak doesn't believe in co-operation with other churches, but I intend to foster good relations with the Catharsians."

Francisca smiles and nods, "No apology needed, just remember, it's never good to get tangled up in this kind of thing, next time you run into adventurers like us, they might not be quite as reasonable."

She accepts the opals thankfully, giving them to vivi to share with the others. "Don't be too harsh on them, priest, our weaknesses are what make us mortals, if we were all perfect, I don't think we'd be worshipping any of the gods." She reaches into her purse and pulls out twenty gold coins, stepping forwards and handing them to the priest. "Put this towards a good cause, I'd give you the opals, but I have to say, they're quite a weakness of mine."

She adjusts her monocle, "Okay, everyone, we should head off!, deeper into the catacombs, where the truth lies!"

Pitamaha is the last to leave, turning to the assembled congregation with a bow and a "Go with the Gods," before bringing up the rear. [I can shift 3 spaces for free at the start of combat, upon rolling initiative; the next time violent action ensues, I will probably want to do so.]

Vivi pops an opal into her mouth to suck on for maximum luck in dealing with the remaining Stone Folk and I guess we can split these up somehow. She instinctively takes her share and passes the bag around, staying directly in front of Grandpa.

(100 divided by... 6? Oh nooooo.)

(16.66666666666 forever. So.. 16 gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze each? I'll throw two of my bronze away on a superstition to avoid infinite fractions.)

(Actually 200 gp worth of opals. There are two dwarves.)

(There's a river.)
