Briar: Now that you wield it in earnest, it becomes evident that the axe is of exceptional craftsmanship, and it almost feels as if you can sense the spirit of its former owner. Treat Rurik's Axe as a +1 weapon (+1 attack and damage, and +1d6 damage on a critical hit), with an additional property that isn't evident in this battle.

[The property is that it is exceptionally good at cutting firewood]

Francisca looks back at the others, calling out "The ghosts seem to be linked to the obelisk, don't get too close, though! Can anyone hit it from far away?"

(If the Obelisk doesn't have Reflex or Will scores, does it automatically fail them or ignore them? I can see how it obviously can't dodge, but throwing my Will based Daily at it would be a downer if the latter.)

I'll say that Ref and Will powers automatically hit.

Forgot to add: All the dwarves except Urkas currently have resist 5 radiant. If you deal radiant, you need to deal 6 or more to kill them.

Pitamaha and Ampersand still to take their turn. Pitamaha gets his 3 shift before his turn.

(I was thinking over using my cloud of darkness to get some of the ghosts out of the picture, but unless they get lined up a bit better it'll hit two at best and block los on the obelisk. Urkas edges toward the battle and stretches his free hand at Pitamaha, uttering a curse. The brass studs on his armour crackle as he unleashes a bolt at Pitamaha. It hits hard and knocks Pitamaha back into the brazier, setting him alight.

Pitamaha takes a reduced 12 damage.

Pitamaha takes a further 3 fire damage at the start of his turn, save ends (roll 10+ on 1d20 at the end of your turn to save). The square he's on is also difficult terrain and takes two movement to leave (but only one square to enter). He also has +2 to AC and all defences against attacks by Pitamaha, as his armour protects him.

The dwarves rush forward to fill the gaps in their line. 7 and 9 attack Ampersand, while 8, 4 and 5 attack Briar with legendary dwarven military cohesion. One hits Ampersand, while three hit Briar. (Two critical hits! Good thing these are minions.)

Ampersand takes 6 damage.
Briar takes 18 damage.

Vivi shoves both of her hands into her deepest coat pockets and moves four squares forward, maintaining concealment and moving into the doorway so that she can fire into the room. As she comes up to the smelly old room again, she withdraws two heaping clumps of half wilted mint and hurls them as hard as she can... not particularly hard, they fall off about half way through at the feet of Dwarf Ghost 5, cursing him with cool mint freshness, but then an unexpected burst of fierce underground tunnel wind seizes the scattered foliage and whips it around the room! As flavor to savor fills the room, most of the leaves impact against the Obelisk, a small cyclone of green and brown puffing up against the terrible idol.

Withdrawing the opal she was chewing on earlier, Vivi holds it up in one hand and snaps, producing inexplicable neon cyan sparks that follow the minty scent to the Obelisk, where the entire whirlwind of leaves explodes into matching vibrant flame.

Quote
Witchfire Damage

2d6 +3
2 + 2 + 3 = 7

The Obelisk, if it chooses to respond, has -5 Attack until the end of Vivi's next turn.

*Action Point Blown!* But she wasn't done yet! She reached up and adjusted her antlers with the same hand she snapped with and then popped the lucky opal back into her mouth. The antlers adopted the minty cyan hue as she began charging her bestest spell.

Under her breath, but just loud enough for Fransisca to get every third word(and no more!), Vivi tells herself the story of a little boy who got lost in the woods three hundred winters ago. He grew exhausted and cold and collapsed under a grove of trees, but the old impartial spirits interpreted a donation of fertilizing decay favorably. They inhaled deeply of the rot and took in his lost soul. The boy's new body would last him forever and he grew very old and very in tune with nature, but the region became cursed. It was said that every time a child became lost in the woods for too long, they would inevitably be found dead, their bodies brutally broken... smashed into the ground, flung into cliff sides or killed by exposure, frozen in huddled, scared positions.

Victims of overenthusiastic games of Tag, Catch and Hide and Go Seek respectively. Vivi throws her hands up and conjures the ethereal image of the bloody new King of Winter Treants, Bartleby Thornfingers, standing over her tiny frame dramatically. A wave of raw terror and psionic fury cascades over the room from her to the Obelisk, which she hopes can appreciate a good story since it is recreating one...

Quote
Curse of Dark Dreams Damage

3d8 +3
6 + 5 + 2 + 3 = 16

... and it must, because the wave impacts like a crack of thunder that discharges a curiously new and fruity(strawberries!) odor over the entire room.

(At this point the Obelisk has -5 attack and -2 attack(do they stack? JD's call) and if possible, Vivi lowers her hands slightly and then shoos the Obelisk away with both hands, causing it to violently shift three squares. If it can't be moved, I guess reset the position and it can ignore the save to end function of Curse of Dark Dreams.)

Vivi attempts to shift the Obelisk three squares, causing it to crash into mean old Urkas.

Francisca runs back into the middle of the fight, nearly tripping over a rock as she notices vivi moving the obelisk across the room and bumping into Briar. "Ahh, sorry about that! Don't worry, we're going to get through this!", She says to Briar.

[Casting Majestic word on briar, she uses a healing surge, gets +4 on top of that, and gets temporary HP, too.]

She looks at the dwarven ghosts surrounding her, "Oh yeah, you think you can beat us? You're nothing! We're the greatest!" She draws her sword and raises it above her head, well, attempts to, the sword seems stuck in the sheath, she decides to just punch her fist up into the air, too.

"HYAHH!"

[Shout of triumph, aimed at ghost 8, 3 square burst. Hit 9 and 4]

Francisca grins as the two ghosts vanish into nothingness as her shout emits a shockwave, making a mental note to write down what she remembers of vivi's story, but her grin fades as she sees pitamaha in the brazier, on fire. "Oh no! Pitamaha!"

The attack penalties against the obelisk actually do apply, and they do stack. (Penalties should be listed under the "STATUS" section at the bottom, though.)

[I don't know how much temporary HP Briar gets from Francisca's magic voice, but I do know that she gets 11hp from the healing surge +4.]

Briar, emboldened by her success against the first ghost and Francisca's inspirational oratory, lays into the next one. "Just like chopping wood," she says aloud.

The swing goes wide, barely nicking the translucent spectre. "Except not really."

[Right. Moving to the indicated spot - it's within my range - and using Iron Fist again. 1d20+5=22>20, a hit! Deals 1d8+3=5 damage. This causes me to continue having my damage resistance of 4. Additionally, for my saving throw against fire, I roll 1d20=1, a clear failure, so I... take three damage, which the damage reduction prevents if I'm not mistaken.]

Pitamaha scarcely seemed to make note of the fact that his turban was on fire. "Thou shalt awaken soon, boy," he said, staring intently at Urkas' entranced eyes. "It behooveth thee to comply peaceably."

(before my next move, do daggers use dex in place of strength for damage mod, or is that just when thrown? dual wielding seems a lot more lame in 4e than I remember)

Melee basic uses Strength for attack and damage, unless you have some feat or ability to use Dex. Rogue powers tend to use Dex for damage.

Dual-wielding is just holding a weapon in each hand; you don't actually get to attack with one. If you take the Two-Weapon Fighting feat, you get +1 to damage with the main weapon when holding a second weapon in your off-hand. Some powers like the ranger's Twin Strike let you attack with both weapons.
