Briar takes a moment to gather herself (using a surge, now at 22 HP), nods at Francisca and pulls a length of rope from her kit. She swiftly ties Urkas's hands behind him (will this require a roll?).

"I think we all owe that bone-witch for all the knocks we've got," she acknowledges as she tests the knot. "But that wasn't part of the contract, so I say we let him be. Least until we get say-so from the guy paying us."

Briar stops, looks at Dog and grins. "I get it. 'Dog,' because you bury bones!"

Dog shuffles awkwardly and grunts "It's... ah... it's a family name."

Pitamaha carefully but quickly removed his turban and stamped out the few embers remaining in it, made sure his few precious remaining wisps of hair had not burned off, then started folding it back around his head. But he thought better of it, and stuffed the scorch-marked length of folded cloth into his pack. He made a mental note to purchase a replacement. [Spending a healing surge, restoring to 26.] "What happens next with this man," he said, "I believe to be a matter between him and his god. Let us help him attain this reconciliation by placing him in the custody of those he wronged in his madness."

Francisca walks over, brushing the hair out of her face and making it neat again. "Are you sure? I mean, it is the church of the avenger. I don't think his followers are into the whole forgiveness thing.".

She looks up at the others. "How about we ask his people on the way out? I'm sure they could come with us and make a plea to the church, better than us just dumping him there all alone."

Looking back down again, she says "I sort of hope he wakes up again soon, though, i'd like to find out why he did all this."

Picks up the dwarf. (I've got plenty of strength and athletics but I'm willing to roll if need be.) "Jus' tell me where to drop him and I'll get him there."
He readjusts the dwarf who's now hanging over his shoulders. "I'd like to find out who the red robe was. I'm sure the church is curious too. And never met an obelisk that wasn't trouble."
Dog sighs. "Looks like I've got my work cut out for me here."

"I'm bored. This is boring."

Vivi deadpan stares at the others. "I'm hungry too."

Vivi stare. "Also if you give that King Rockbeard back to the other Rockbeards, he'll tell them a bunch of lies and do it again. Let's take him back to the Church."

(:V Why do you think this guy deserves a plea for leniency? He's sacrificing holy swords for dark rituals and summoning the undead. Sorry about your fallen clan bro, but every step after the falling has been pretty unsympathetic!)

"The half-pint's right,"  Briar nods. "This dwarf turned his back on his clanmates and the sword belongs to the Church, so to the Church he should go. Nice thinking, junior mint."

Suddenly, the door you entered by bursts open and the dwarves spill into the room, some wounded. Behind them march empty suits of armour animated by a red mist. The dwarves bar the door and brace themselves against it. Two dwarves carry their black-cloaked leader away from the door. He's bloodied and grimaces in pain.

"The suits of armour came to life," he says as he swigs a faintly glowing healing potion. "We lost three men and had to fall back to this position."

Someone starts bashing against the other side of the barred door.

"Daim," he shouts, "You were a craftsdwarf, weren't you? How long will that door hold against their axes?"

The dwarf in the crystal armour, bracing the door, replies, "It's magically treated wood, Captain, but it won't last more than ten minutes at this rate. Less, if they're smart enough to use a statue or something as a battering ram."

The black-cloaked dwarf gives Urkas' unconscious body a shove.

"At least he went out fighting. Wait, where's Belvar Ovrak, the high priest? He was in here, and there are no exits except the way in. He must be in the adjacent chamber. If anyone is puppeting these, it's Ovrak, or at least Ovrak knows what's really going on. Either way, he's in that room."

"Whatever you're doing, Captain, you'd better make it fast," says Daim. "There must be twenty, thirty suits of armour out there."

Francisca stands there, wide eyed, a blank look on her face. "Okay, this was unexpected."

Ampersand finishes gathering his dropped equipment and gathering his breath (another 5 HP from a surge). Armed with sword and loaded crossbow in hand he turns to the dwarves.

"Diam, you and one sturdy man do what you can to block their entrance, the shattered obelisk should be using the same magic, so you might use the remains to ward." he turns and glances between the warlock and bard for a confirmation momentarily. "The wounded stay here and get what respite you can, in case you need to guard our rear." Pointing towards the leader with his sword, Ampersand motions with it for him to come. "Assuming you're a sturdy enough soldier you can still stand, take the lead with two of your men. We need that priest to stand down before the undead overrun us and you're our best bet for that, both as a diplomat and warrior."

Francisca nods, "Yeah, let's go stop him!", she had gotten distracted with note taking and such during the battle that she had completely forgotten about the robed dwarf, she makes a mental note to focus a little more next time.

(Yeah, let's go get that guy!) Vivi sighs and glares at the next doorway. Then glares at Briar for awhile. Then at the door and heads for it.

As you pass through the door, you're momentarily dazed by bright daylight. You each find yourself alone on a balcony overlooking the city, with cheering crowds below looking up at you. The sudden change from the dungeon is disorienting, but the crowds seem to be chanting your name. You notice that the kingdom's crown is on your head.

"Your subjects," says Belvar Ovrak, the old dwarven high priest. "Not since King Loren has the kingdom had such a beloved and benevolent ruler as yourself! Your wealth is beyond measure, and your knowledge is vast. You have saved countless lives from war and famine. Your power is absolute, and your enemies are all dead. Anything you wish for is yours!"

The high priest leans toward you as the crowds cheer.

"That is what you want, isn't it?"

"Odd. Was it not... night-time, when we entered this building?" said Pitamaha, well-acquainted with madness.

Vivi stares dead-pan at Belvar. "Hey, Grandpa Rockbeard... this is a pretty weak dream." Vivi crosses her arms and looks profoundly disappointed, as though she has been practicing moping until this moment. "Ruling people is boring. I want dinner. And then.. some smokes. And maybe a really big pillow. And a dog. Or a cat. But the cat would have to be black." She looks down her nose at him, indignity mounting. "I'm too young to be this dull and successful."

Dog simply turns around and walks back through the door way. "Of course all my enemies are dead. They just keep moving around," he mutters.

Francisca opens her eyes wide and pulls out her notebook, writing rapidly "Wow.. where are we? What kingdom is this? This is amazing!", She looks down over the balcony at the crowds. "Hello subjects, buy my books, You can find copies at your local bookstores!", She turns around, looking back up at the castle, trying to get down all the details, then looks over at Belvar. "What's going on here? I don't remember saving any kingdom."

"What the fff-?" Briar looks down at the cheering crowd. She furrows her brow and glares at Ovrak. "No it isn't."

She makes a grab for him. "Stop playin' games or I'll beat the manure out of you."

Ampersand walks over to the edge of the balcony, looking down at the crowd. Lifting his crossbow towards the high priest he sighs and shakes his head, "I only see four hookers down there, and am quite clearly sober. You have no idea what I want. Now will you be dropping this illusion on your own, or am I going to have to make a vain attempt at striking down this form in front of me?"

"Strange," says Ovrak. "Most mortals are more easily tempted by wealth and power. Urkas Berg certainly was."

The illusion disappears and you're all standing together in a narrow room with a high domed ceiling like the one before. Glowing moss covers the walls and lights the room red.

Ovrak coughs up a trickle of blood that dribbles across the floor as if alive and enters three suits of armour in the corner, animating them to life.

"Unfortunately, I've invested too much in the Urkas project over the past century to let you ruin it now. I'll deal with you personally. In a way, you're lucky. No mortal has seen my true form in over two hundred years."

Ovrak lowers another illusion, and you see his true form: a massive, spindly blood red demon with tiny black eyes and a giant maw. Its long claws drip blood and its whip-like tail is edged with serrated bone blade.
