You can still see and attack Ovrak normally. He appears there, on the battlefield.

Francisca suddenly realises that she's zoned out, and needs to get back to the task at hand.

"You might have tricked me for a little bit! But because you didn't accept my offer, that only means you get to live for a little big longer!"

She reaches out and blasts him again, ignoring the skeletons that ride all around her.

[Vicious mockery, 10 damage, -2 to attack until the end of my next turn again]

"Take that, you inept fiend! You're done for! By Rothdar's Muscular Biceps, This book is going to sell like crazy!"

You hear the dwarves shout as the door they're holding collapses and animated suits of armour wade into battle.

A badly injured Ovrak glances at his only exit route blocked by two people and lays into attack against Briar.

Ovrak slides Briar out of the way, then misses with the bite, shifts one square, then misses with the claw.

He charges toward the doorway, accompanied by two illusory riders who slash at Ampersand and Francisca. One hits Francisca!

Francisca takes 5 psychic damage.
Francisca is immobilized and has -2 to attack on her next turn.

(Immobilized means you can't take a move, but you can still attack normally.)

(Ordinarily you'd all get attacks of opportunity here, but he shifted away from Dog and everyone else is dazed and so can't make opportunity attacks.)

PCs' turn! Ovrak is on 7 HP and none of you are dazed any more. The illusory battlefield disappears as Ovrak tries to flee.

Ovrak's whipping tail applies to the first person this round who moves (even shifts) within 2 squares. It's +6 vs AC, but only +4 vs AC counting Francisca's penalty, and only +2 vs AC counting Briar's mark also, if attacking anyone but Briar, which also triggers Briar's mark attack, I assume. If the whipping tail hits, you take 1d8+5 damage, are knocked prone, and your movement ends. (Simple, eh?)

Additionally, he takes a penalty to attack rolls equal to the number of adjacent allies, at present 2. No further actions are necessary.]

Vivi had had enough. There was not a thing to eat in this entire terrible dungeon and now this gargantuan, stupid demon devil doom evil was going to bellow all over it's stupid armor reinforcements and prolong their lack of dinner further.

Not on her watch.

She had obviously been chewing on her last wad of mint leaves for the last few rounds of combat, but simply too subtly to be noticed. With calm purpose she stepped five squares forward and extracted the wet clump of mulched leaves, throwing it fast-ball style at Ovrak's stupid face. It landed with a satisfying splort. Then she cocked her arm like an imaginary crossbow and pointed dead center at Ovrak's head and the wad.

"Like this, grandpa."

The neon green blast exploded upon the big evil guy's big dumb face in a big burst of horrible rift-rending fey energies, followed by the final dramatic burst of minty freshness filling the whole of the room as the wad of chewed leaves exploded into violet fireworks. Vivi herself then followed suit, her Curse Boon activating as Ovrak died and she teleported 3 squares forward, standing triumphantly upon his corpse. She took a moment to blow across the top of her fist, cocking it once more before letting her arms drift at her sides, looking terribly bored again.

As Ovrak's body falls lifeless, so do the armour suits. The dwarves sheath their weapons and walk over.

"So Ovrak was really a demon in disguise," says a dwarf

"Do you suppose Ovrak was always a demon? Or was there once a real dwarf named Ovrak, and the demon took his form?"

"It's a shame the glass pillar was destroyed. It was a priceless artwork of our clan from the ancient days. It stood for the Berg clan: who we were, the battles we fought. I suppose all that really is over now."

Urkas Berg still lies unconscious in the corner. Ovrak's body lies still, dead - it doesn't melt away, or disappear in a puff of fire like in some of the stories of demons.

On the floor lie Ovrak's apparel: his high priest ceremonial staff and hat, his torn robes, and a golden monocle. On a table are a stack of old books and scrolls, illuminated by red glowing moss that lines the dirty walls. In the back of the room is a locked wooden chest.

Francisca leans against the wall, panting and puffing, holding her arm where the skeleton slashed her, she's never really been attacked before, so this is a new thing for her.

She looks around as she regains her composure, she pulls out her notebook to write notes, but as she reaches for her monocle, which is hanging on its chain, she realises that it was smashed in the battle, unable to write until she gets a new one, she puts her notebook away and walks over to the dwarves, "I apologise for the pillar, I said to attack it, I thought it may have been what was controlling urkas."

She puts her notebook away and turns towards them, "But, the pillar was just a thing, the people of your clan are what counts, Hopefully now that ovrak is gone, urkas will return to normal, and he can get back to the job of restoring your clan to greatness! Of course, he'll need all the help he can get. And then, afterwards, you can make a new pillar, maybe instead of the battles you've fought, it can celebrate the lives you've lived."

She leans over and shakes each of ther hands "I'm glad to have met you all, thankyou for holding the door, I'll celebrate your lost kinsmen in writing."

Afterwards, she walks over to the table, of course, she's drawn to the books before anything else, although, on the way there, she notices the monocle laying on the robes. "Well, I don't think he'll mind..", She reaches down, picks it up and pops it onto her eye.

Francisca looks over at dog, "Huh? Oh, the monocle? Hey, look at all these books! I can't read without help, my spares are all the way down the bottom of my backpack, and not every item of clothing has a horrible curse on it, calm down!"

She turns back to the books and starts looking through them. "Sorry, but when there's books to be read, rothdar himself couldn't stop me."

She looks up at the roof, "Well, you probably could, fairly easily, it was just a figure of speech, my lord."

Francisca: As you put on the monocle, the text on the book comes into focus. It's a detailed description of how to perform the Comprehend Language ritual. At the end, a footnote describes an old artifact, a golden monocle which, when Comprehend Language is performed, creates eight identical monocles that grant the same comprehension to anyone who carries them.

The other books and scrolls are records of history and arcane experiments. Of special interest is a book titled "Demons of the Non-Conjured Sort, and Associated Rituals". It mentions a demon named Morael, who, according to an ancient stone monument, fought at the Dawn War and held the power to create illusions and invoke fear in men's minds. A clan of dwarves in ancient times erected the monument to commemorate a battle in which the demon was defeated, captured, and trapped in a stone coffin.

Vivi: The dwarf's outfit fits you surprisingly well, though it's a little baggy. It doesn't have any discernable enchantment.

Francisca grins widely, "By rothdar, This monocle is amazing, I can read anything!"

She reads through the books, when she gets up to the bit about Morael, she asks the dwarves if any of them have heard about him.

Also, she asks how Urkas is doing.

Bthur shakes his head. "I've never heard the name Morael."

Urkas remains tied up in the corner. Bthur walks over to him and speaks in Dwarven.

"Urkas! Wake up, you traitor."

He slaps Urkas. Urkas begins to stir.

"Urkas Berg, on behalf of the Berg clan I denounce you as the ruler of our people. Your lands and holdings are forfeit, and when you die, your remains will be cremated instead of buried in armour with the honoured dead."

"And another thing. I don't need your evil drow cloak. How many dwarves were sacrificed to make this? How many priceless artifacts of our people?"

Bthur throws off his black cloak, dumps it by the wooden chest in the corner, and orders his men to remove Urkas' armour and weapons. They do so, and dump that in the corner as well.

Dog stretches and pops his shoulder. "Well, I guess we should get this sword back to the church."
He takes a small look around. "Let the dwarves here clean up the mess and get everything settled again. You guys will let me know if there's anymore dead guys walking around, right?"

"The sooner the sword is in the proper hands, the better," Briar nods, binding a wound with a clean cloth. "Wiping out that scourge of dead guys was really fun and all... well actually, I feel like I'm gonna puke, but the point is we should get the sword back to th' church."

She watches Ampersand collect up all the loot with interest. "His clan did just cast him out and all..."
