These woods look very different to the ones you're used to. They are overgrown with all manner of foliage and untouched by civilization. You've never seen most of these plants before.

A small bird alights on your antler.

"I'm comin', kid!" Briar starts struggling her armour off. "Help me with this, Franny! We gotta save her!"

Francisca runs over, dropping her backpack onto the ground, she tries her best to help briar with her armour, not having much experience with it, she mostly just gets in the way. "Be careful, you'll need a way to get back, I can't rescue both of you if you get stuck!" She gives up on the armour and runs back to her backpack, grabbing her 50 feet of rope off of the side of it, handing one end to Briar. "I'll hold onto this, you grab her and then give two quick tugs on the rope and I'll pull you back out!"

Briar strips to her skivvies and ties the rope around her waist. "Two tugs, got it!"

She takes a deep breath and dives into the water, swimming for any clue of Vivi.

Briar: The current seems to pull you downward, and you surface in a lush verdant forest. The rope is still attached. You spot Vivi marvelling at the wonders of nature.

"Vivi! You're okay," Briar says, shaking the water off. She suddenly notices where they are. "Wh-what is this? Is this one of them underwater caves with the forests inside? Boy, wait'll Franny hears about this... C'mon, we gotta go back!" She takes Vivi's arm.

By the time you return to the old world, several hours have passed. The sun is rising.

In the distance, you hear a terrible screeching howl.

Francisca was going out of her mind with worry, she's not a good swimmer, but didn't want to abandon them to run back to town to get help, so she just sat beside the water, holding onto the rope and waiting, hoping that they were alright.

Briar gasps as she surfaces and pulls Vivi out of the water. "There's some kinda underground forest in a cave down there," she pants as she shakes off the water and gets her clothes back on. "We could probably check it out again later, when we're not huntin' down the monster."

"That came from outside! I think..."

Francisca whips around at the sound. "Oh my... maybe splitting up was not such a good idea.." She creeps up to the entrance and peeks outside, trying to see if there's anything out there.

Pitamaha and Ampersand: Suddenly, something passes outside the church. It's only visible for a moment through a window.

Pitamaha and Ampersand: It's still dark when, from inside the church you see the creature. You only catch glimpses of it through the narrow church windows as it circles the church hill in the dark of night. It is a four-legged beast, a kind of nightmarish, hairless wolf. It moves silently and gracefully, like a predator, with a long, barbed tail that swings in the air in balance with its steps.

Just then, you hear the trapdoor open in the church office.

Pitamaha quietly moves up against the wall beside the church door, listening carefully. He hadn't heard anything happen in the basement and was starting to wonder if something had happened to Ampersand, but if that thing decided to come indoors, he wanted to be ready for it.

Francisca looks back at the others. "I think maybe we shouldn't be hanging around here..."

Pitamaha: The beast suddenly turns toward the door and glares at you with black eyes. It scratches at the ground but moves no closer to the church, as if forbidden by an invisible border.

To clarify, Ampersand is already back in the main church room with Pitamaha. The only person that could be coming up through the trapdoor is the priest. You have about thirty seconds before he leave the office and spots you both.

Francisca looks at Vivi. "What if whatever it is that made that sound lives around here, and it comes back to us splashing around in its drinking water? That doesn't sound like the best plan to me."
