"Grundly-loos come from Druid Heaven, but uhm, I don't really know Druid wards. It's like... when you can't cross running water because it's bad luck, right? Except twice as hard, and uhm, if we don't have a ward ready we might get really beat up." Vivi beams. Master. Wizard.

Francisca puts her hand on her chin, thinking. "Where can we get a ward? Do we need a druid for that?"

Francisca: A spellcaster of any sort might still know a ritual like this, but as far as you know, the only spellcaster in the village was killed by the creature.

Someone in the city might know, but in the two days it takes you to make the journey on foot (there are no horses in the village), the creature will visit the town and kill again.

She looks down at Vivi again. "So you're saying we couldn't beat it? Even if we were all together? Why is that? Is there anything special about them?"

Vivi shrugs. "You take the first shot, Lil Sis."

Francisca peeks around the tree at it again, then looks back "Damn it Vivi, i'm an author, not a beastslayer!"

"Hath the monster ceased to stalk us?" Pitamaha asked Ampersand. "No? Good. If for even a moment it should turn its attention from this church, we must at once run out to distract it."

"Well, we can't just stand here," Briar growls. "If only we had a net or something, we could trap it... I can't shake the feeling that we missed something back at that spooky hill."

As the sun rises, the creature becomes more agitated. It lets out a low grumbling sound and bounds off in the direction of the burial mound in the woods. It ignores Pitamaha's attempt to draw its attention. If it spots Briar, Vivi, and Francisca, it's intentionally ignoring them.

Vivi confers with Franny. "Aside from figuring out uhm, some sort of good ward... our best bet would be to somehow trap it and see what happens when the sunlight hits it. I bet it'll scream and blow up, like a Wampire." Spelling intentional.

"Do you think it's going to sleep now? Maybe we could trap it, Roll a few big rocks in front of the way in. That'd give us time to plan, at least."

Ampersand gives Pitamaha a light shove on the shoulder as the beast runs off "it's not stalking us, better run out with your arms flailing. I'll... take the front door to try and cut it off."

The beast runs at panther-like speed and disappears into the woods before you can catch it.

"Well, there it goes," Briar says urgently. "Oh what the hell, you're gonna die of something!" With that, she takes off after it.

The creature passes you and runs into the forest. After a minute of chase, it suddenly stops, wheels around and turns toward Briar. It walks slowly toward you through the woods, swinging its tail threateningly with a quiet growl.

Briar, you're currently 50 squares away from it. The axe gleams. You sense it wants to fight. You will gain your +1 attack and damage bonus against this creature.

Vivi and Francisca, you're 100 squares away from it.

Pitamaha and Ampersand, you're 300 squares away.

     Rules for moving quickly
You can move more quickly than your base speed by either Running, making a Double Move, or both.

A Double Move takes both your Move and Standard action for the round, but you move twice your base speed.

Running increases your base speed by +2, at the cost of combat penalties that round: -5 to attack and you grant Combat Advantage.

The fastest you can run is both a Double Move and a Run, for a total of (speed x 2) +4. If your base speed is 6 and you do nothing but run in the round, you can move 16 squares.

Ampersand finally sticks his head out the doorway and looks around, "wait, what's going on?"

Ampersand, you see Briar in the distance break formation and chase the creature into the woods alone.

"Follow!" Pitamaha called to Ampersand, already chasing hard after the beast.

[If the encounter has begun, I'd like to use my Speed of Thought encounter power to move three extra squares closer, but I can only do that in response to rolling initiative. Additionally, if possible, I'd like to use my Accelerating Strike power to increase my speed by 2, but there's no enemies around for me to attack. Regardless of either of those things, I run.]

"I ain't afraid a' you!" Briar snarls and advances on the creature at normal speed, smoothly swinging her axe in a figure eight.
