(since she's bloodied, she gets 5 temp hp)

Briar scrambles up the tree! Hopefully that thing can't climb.

Quote
Athletics check
1d20 +10 >= 10
18 + 10 = 28 ... success

She takes a moment to catch her breath (using a healing surge- 12/13) and rubs some leaves on herself to neutralize the acid.

Briar's Saving throw
1d20 >= 10
15 ... success

Seems its done all the damage it'll do.

[Hey, you said you were withdrawing, I was waiting for you to move into range so I could heal you, so I don't end up running towards you and being stuck beside the giant monster with no movement left! And then you decided to climb a tree.]

Since it didn't seem like briar was going to be able to get out of the tree, Francisca decided that the only thing she could do was try bluff it. Running towards it, she starts yelling. "Get out of here, you beast! I'm a druid, and I can send you back to where you came from if you keep this up! I've got wards all over the place, it's amazing how many wards I have!"

[+2 bonus for the risky manoever = 21]

The creature turns toward Francisca. It takes a cautious step forward, then suddenly turns and flees into the woods with nearly supernatural speed. It seems Rothdar is with you today!

It's headed in the direction of the ancient standing stones. That's at least an hour away for the creature, and if the previous pattern holds, it won't attack the village again until nightfall.

Francisca collapses onto the floor, panting hard, wiping sweat from her brow, she looks upwards and smiles. "Thankyou, my lord"

Briar peers down and sees the creature's gone. She climbs down and sheepishly dusts herself off (another healing surge - 11/13, which brings her up to 30hp after the 5 temp hp wears off).

She approaches Fransisca and reaches down to help her up. "Uh, thanks. That was kind of dumb, I admit. But we know what that thing's capable of now."

Francisca looks up at briar and grabs her hand, getting back up. "It's.. hhh.. fiiine.. This is why we.. shouldn't split up anymore... Are you alright?", she looks over at Vivi, "You alright, minty vivi?" [I have an ability that gives +4 to healing surges after a short rest, could that apply to briar's surge?]

Yes, the bonus applies to healing surges between combats like this.

You have until nightfall before the beast is likely to return. It's currently morning. What're you doing in this time?

Well, first, I think we should inform the people in the town of what's going on. So everyone knows to not go out anywhere alone once it gets dark.

Yeah. Maybe we should take another look at that scary mound. We never actually explored too deep. Wait, wasn't there a ruin somewhere around here?

The two ruins are:

1. The old burial mound underneath the church. Most people think it's just a hill
2. The burial mound in the ravine in the forest, with the standing stones, sacrifice table, and pool of water that acts as a portal to another world. The creature was last seen headed in that direction.

When they regroup, Briar asks Pitahama: "What did you learn about the church?"

Francisca finds a nice place to sit down for a bit, get her breath back, take a swig of water, and jot down some stuff in her notebook. She's not particularly used to that kind of physical exertion, she found the running more stressful than confronting the giant murderous beast.

She looks over at the others. "So, err.. How do we get some wards? Can I use them? If not, I guess the next best thing would be to confront this thing during the day, when it sleeps. Also, no splitting up again, ever. Never ever, I say."

"We should go back and talk to the priest more. He seemed to know the thing's weaknesses. Didn't get much of a chance to talk before we had to run off after something or other though."

When Pitamaha caught up to the rest of the party, he said, "Whither hath it gone? I shall inspect that place, then return."

Francisca lifts her arms up, putting her hands out, "Hey, guys, no more splitting up, alright? It's just going to lead to trouble, how about we all talk to the priest first, and then go and check out the place the monster went to? Talking to the priest will only take a little while, and we have all day to get to the monster's lair."
