"Sounds like a plan," Briar nods. "Lead the way."

"Very well," said Pitamaha. "So long as we exercise caution that the trail doth not grow cold."

Francisca starts walking towards the church, looking over her shoulder at Pitamaha. "I know, but it's a risk that we have to take, i've been close to this thing, we don't want to fight it at anything less than full strength."

Ampersand shakes his head and finally rises from wherever he was sitting because he was probably sitting. "The trail can't go cold if we know where the thing lives. C'mon, if the priest has what we need we might be able to finish this before nightfall and we're back on the beast's terms."

"Okay why don't we do both?" Briar says. "We see the priest now, and if that doesn't work ,we go hunt this thing where it lives."

Francisca nods, "Information is the key to winning any fight. Well, information and having a bunch of people who know how to kill things in front of you."

The priest walks out of the church. At this point several villagefolk are awake and anxious for the news. The priest hurries you inside the church.

"Please," he says to the villagers, "Do not fear. These heroes have fought the beast this morning, and we have the situation in hand."

He shuts the door.

"What now?"

Francisca walks over to the priest and bows. "Good morning, sir, My name is Francisca, it's very nice to meet you. My companions have told me that you may have some valuable information about the nature of the beast we are fighting." She tells him about what they saw at the burial mound, and how she managed to get it to run off. And asks about the relation of this monster and the picture of the winged humanoid being killed in the pictogram.

The priest nods. "An ancient fight took place there between powerful beings long ago. The priests of this village have held its secrets for generations."

He brings out a small, old book.

"The priest before me encountered the creature once. He called it the Dawnstalker. It was weaker in daylight, suffered greatly from iron weapons, and was repelled by a warding ritual named Magic Circle that protects against creatures from other worlds."

He hands you two scrolls of paper.

"These are the only scrolls left from the priest before me. Given the danger, I'll allow you to have them."

    Magic Circle
You draw a circle of runes, taking 1 minute to inscribe per circle inside the square. Once complete, creatures of a certain origin (notes say the creature is of fey origin) cannot pass through the circle. Requires an Arcana check DC12.

    Protection from Energy
Takes half a minute to cast. Lasts one hour. One target gains resistance to an energy type (e.g. acid) equal to 10 plus the caster's Arcana or Religion modifier, but only for one hit. Costs one healing surge (from anyone).

Francisca thanks the priest, and accepts the scrolls. "How long has it been attacking the town like this? Has it been a recurring thing, or has it only started recently?"

"This is the first time since I was assigned here by the church. My predecessor saw it, but his notes don't explain why."

Francisca nods. "Thankyou for your help, we had better go and deal with this thing before anyone else gets killed." She turns to walk away, but looks over her shoulder. "By the way, how many people got killed last time this thing showed up?"

Vivi is sleeping during this time. Being carried piggy-back style by Big Sis or Grandpa is acceptable. :V If they're not game I guess I went back to the inn.

"Before you go, you should bring the body. It is necessary to sacrifice a person to complete the sacrifice ritual, and better this body than a living being." He wraps the body of the dead villager in a burial shroud and hands it to you.

It is late morning by the time you arrive at the ravine in the forest. At the bottom of a rocky path is the burial mound with the standing stones around it and the burial cairn on top. The creature is currently nowhere to be seen.
