[Just before we go, I wanna roll an insight check to make sure the priest doesn't have any shifty motives in getting us to sacrifice this guy.  Rolled 14, 14+6=20]

Francisca doesn't really like the idea of sacrificing a body, alive or dead.

Francisca looks around. "Should we try do the ritual now? Or look for the monster first?"

"We should do the ritual," Briar says, setting the body town on the altar. "Did the priest say there was any special method to it?"

Francisca looks at her note book, flipping through to the relevant page. "Looks like you need to lay him on the altar, break his knee, impale him, and then cut off his head... not very pleasant."

Vivi has her eyes half open, watching the whole thing from over Briar's shoulder. "You know what'd be cuter than a Squiggle-Goo? If we put a ward up at the entrance of this cave after the monster left it, but right before it could come back in to escape the morning sun."

Looking over at vivi. "Oh? trap it outside? Do you know what happens to it if it's stuck out in the sun? Will it die, or will it just be really really mad at us?", She goes back to reading through her notes, then turns back. "What's a squiggle-goo?"

Vivi gives Franny a really condescending look, helped immensely by the fact that piggy-back riding Briar lets her actually do so from a higher height. "Heh.. what's a squiggle-goo..." She grins. "Let's do the ritual!"

Francisca looks back down at her note book, flipping through the recent pages to see if there's any mention of a squiggle-goo.

"Well, let's get to it," Briar sighs. "Hey Vivi, mind if I borrow your knife?"

"This might be handy for the whole leg breaking part of it." *Francisca pulls the mace they found in the burial mound earlier on and hands it over to Briar, then thinks for a second. "You want to use my sword? It's never been used before. I was even thinking of selling it, but as soon as I do, I bet i'll get into a situation where a sword would be handy." She grabs the sheathe and hilt of her sword, and tries to pull it free, it doesn't budge. "Urghh.. This.. sorry, just give me a.." *She keeps trying to pull the sword free, but it won't budge. "Well.. I'm glad that didn't happen in a life or death situation."

Vivi offers Briar her knife, which is used primarily for stabbing... plants.

"Speaking of life and death..." Ampersand finally comments "...do we know anything specific about this ritual? I wasn't payin' all the attention I should back there." He gives an upward nod of his head towards the altar and, more specifically, the body. "What exactly happens the moment when his head rolls?"

"Guess we'll find out, eh?"

Briar sets about the grisly work. She uses the proffered mace to smash the corpse's kneecaps. Vivi's dagger goes into the chest, and she uses her own axe to decapitate the body with a single stroke.

"Whew," she says, examining her axe blade. "Didn't nick it. Now what happens?"

Francisca goes a little green at the sight, and walks a little further away, taking her monocle off to clean it, she looks around, listening for any signs of the monster. "We probably should have asked about what signs to look for, to tell if it worked." She puts her monocle back on and scans the horizon, looking for any signs of movement.

Pitamaha watched the body closely. [Knowledge: Religion: 1d20+8=27] "I shall know enough to tell thee in a moment," he said.

The young man's head rolls off the platform and lands on the ground with the quiet thud. All is silent for a moment, then suddenly a warm wind rushes from the burial mound. It shakes the trees and bushes, and the loud rustle of leaves surrounds you. The trees begin growing and their roots feel around like tentacles. Flowers bloom and foliage grows everywhere.

Within a minute, the burial mound is covered in tall grass and ferns, and tree cover blocks out patches of light. The wind fades to a faint rustle.

Suddenly, the dreadful screeching roar of the creature echoes throughout the forest. It appears from the foliage and charges toward you in a rage!

PENALTIES:
1. The creature is cut off from his home plane. It suffers a -25 penalty to maximum hit points.
2. The creature is in sunlight. It suffers -1 to all defences, except when adjacent to a tree.

Pitamaha, Francisca and Ampersand win the initiative, and get one turn before the creature.

Also, Pitamaha: With your 27 Religion you suddenly recognise the ritual as a kind of druidic fertility ritual that draws power from the outer plane where the nature goddess Seria resides, using an ancient portal here. It causes plants to grow and the land to become more fertile for the coming year. Perhaps, a century ago, this ritual was performed regularly. The church of Catharsus must have gone to great lengths to keep this secret hidden.

"This suffering and death hath transpired because a child yearned for ancestral gods from whom he was separated," said Pitamaha. "Perhaps, in time, we shall make it right, but on this day it is all we can do to prevent further bloodshed. Rally! We fight!"

He drew his sword and rushed toward the creature, focusing his will upon expanding his presence in the beast's mind. [Speed of Thought to move three spaces north for free, then Battlemind's Demand Augment 0 to mark the Grundly-Loo, then walk back to the space indicated.
