Briar gets up unsteadily. She ain't got time to bleed! She makes a conservative chop at its legs.

Briar's axe tears a great gash in the creature's hind and it collapses down dead. It slumps lifeless over the cold stone altar.

Ampersand hops back down from the tree and walks towards the fallen creature. Sitting on what remained of the altar and finish some bread he still had in his pocket while examining the corpse, he spoke out to no one in particular. "You know, I totally forget why we came out here in the first place."

Francisca's legs go weak, and she flops down onto the ground. "By rothdar, that was stressful.. I wish someone had told me that we weren't banishing the thing, just cutting it off from its power source." She looks over at Briar. "How are you feeling, Briar? It got you pretty good."

Suddenly a nearby tall tree creaks and topples under its own weight. The tree's long roots are levered upward and tear open the side of the burial mound, scattering rock and dirt everywhere.

The opening reveals a second burial spiral full of valuable treasure. The bodies laid here have long decomposed into skeletons, but the possessions interred with them have survived - gold and magic items among them.

(Treasure list forthcoming.)

In the tomb you find the following massive hoard:

An ancient scroll written in Supernal

Gold, gems, statuettes and other trinkets to the value of 820 gold pieces (164 gp each, if divided evenly five ways)

A tightly-sealed stone urn containing six potions, still in drinkable condition, easily identified by commonly-known magical runes on the bottles:
1. Potion of Water Walking (walk on water for 5 minutes)
2. Potion of Resistance, Fire (spend a healing surge to gain resist 5 fire for one encounter)
3. Potion of Cure Light Wounds (Spend a healing surge to regain 1d8+1 HP instead of normal surge value. Works if you are bloodied and out of healing surges.)
4. Potion of Cure Light Wounds (another one)
5. Elixir of Treasure Finding (gain innate sense of the direction of nearest treasure within 10 squares for one round)
6. Elixir of Clairvoyance (see as if you were at any location within 2 squares or 10 feet, even through barriers such as doors. Spend a minor action to sustain the effect, and you can shift the sense location.)

A steel scimitar:

An unusual black steel short sword:

A stone two-handed warhammer:

Francisca goes for the scroll first, not really having much of an interest in the rest of the stuff. "I wonder where this one is going to lead us. It's always helpful when you find a new puzzle right where you solve the first one." She quickly grabs out her notebook and starts writing down what the place looks like, and what they found, and then sits down on a nearby rock and looks at the scroll, trying to decipher it.

Ampersand turns and watches as the tree falls (fortunately) away from them and quickly notices a shining glint from in the newly opened burial site. Immediately going for the gold, he fills his pockets before starting to look over the other goodies. Disappointed by the lack of poisons among the flasks, bottles and vials, a chill suddenly comes down his back as the short sword is handled. "That's a blade you 'ought to be careful never finds its way to your back. I think I'll be taking it just to make sure."

Pitamaha examined the scimitar and hung it from his waist, then went over to where Francisca was puzzling over the scroll. "Ah, that scroll! Francisca, thou speakest the High Tongue? <What a relief! I haven't met many who do in... in these lands>," he added in Supernal. "I am desirous of reviewing that note, when thou hast finished."

Francisca looks at Pitamaha, slightly confused, and then realises. "Oh! No, I don't know supernal.", she points at her monocle. "This lets me comprehend languages when i'm reading." She goes back to the scroll. "I only know dwarven, The dwarves love reading adventure stories, so I thought it would be a good market to break into."

"Thou - ah, when reading," said Pitamaha. "Please pardon my forgetfulness. I only thought... well, put it out of thy mind." He then read the scroll over her shoulder.

Francisca smiles and gives pitamaha a better view of it. "An extra pair of eyes never hurts, Especially when you've only got one to begin with. Tell me what you think."

It's another page from the Rynwold Pantheon, the holy text. The feel of the paper and style of writing match the page you found before. It reads as follows:

Thanks for playing the shareware version of The Rynwold Pantheon! We hope you've enjoyed this free demo. The full version contains dozens of new adventures, over 100 ancient artifacts and several new lines of dialogue from the old priest in Dramsburg!

Vivi, completely undaunted by this development, fills out the survey on a scrap of a resin wrapper and then crumples it up and drops it on top of the scroll. She looks very sleepy.

Francisca reads the scroll, then looks and glares up into the sky, glares at any mysterious sky men that there might be that are watching and screwing with her.

I'll fill in what the scroll actually says while I work on the campaign over the next week or so. In the meantime:

1. Who's taking the maul and six potions? (If nobody takes the maul, you can sell it in any town or city for 440gp or 88gp each. If nobody takes the items, they're gone!)

2. The gold and valuables in the tomb comes to 164gp each. If you don't write it down, it's gone!

3. If you haven't filled it in already, I've put up a web survey. I'm looking for feedback from all the players to improve the campaign. You can also post in the thread if you have any ideas for things you'd like to see, items you'd like to find, etc.

Briar will take the Maul, she guesses, along with her allotment of loot. Never hurts to have a backup. She wraps a length of cloth around her neck as a bandage for now, and goes through the potions. She takes one Cure Light Wounds, tosses the other to Pitahama, Gives Clairvoyance to Ampersand, Treasure Finding to Franny, and Water Walking and Fire Resist to Vivi.

"There," she says. "Now we all got somethin', and we can trade 'em if things calls for it."

(also Briar's too injured to notice this meta nonsense but I'll fill out the survey anyway :v)

(I'll accept Water Walking but... Fire Resist? As a Tiefling I.)

Dumps the Fire Resist Potion on Franny's head into Franny's open hand where she will catch the entire bottle gracefully.

Pockets expected gold, glares at the others. "We missed dinner."
