"what we should do..." Ampersand interjects "...is spend the night staking out both spots. "Seeing as I don't know the specifics of smelling out an enemy and bathe regularly, I'll stick to the church. Anyone else is free to come, as long as I can't spot you to tell the difference." With that Ampersand is up and off again, properly (he hopes) draping his new cloak, and finally redoing the buttons of his shirt from the night prior.

Arriving at the church he would start looking for good vantage points and / or spots to climb to the roof.

Francisca looks between the two groups, "I honestly have no idea, this isn't really my area of expertise, I should probably go with our stealthy friend, though, because i've read that many animals can still smell you, no matter how often you bathe, so he might need some help."

She notices him climbing up onto the roof. "On the other hand, last time I tried climbing, I fell off the kitchen table and knocked myself out."

Night falls. Are you following the tracks to the woods? Going to the church? Splitting the party between the two?

Briar sneers at Ampersand. "Well! I'm going to run recon in the woods, with everyone who has manners. C'mon, Vee." She tugs on Vivi's arm before following the tracks towards the woods. "We're gonna go on down to the ruins and catch us a scary monster. That'll show these donkeys."

"And I bathe regular enough," she grumbles. She surreptitiously sniffs under her armour and glances over at Vivi. "Don't I?"

[Well, Briar is following the tracks into the woods. Hopefully with someone else along.]

Francisca decides to follow Briar, She doesn't like moving far above the ground, and will try to take any option to avoid it.

Vivi goes with Briar, offering her a citrus smelling lemon drop when she asks about the bathing.

Pitamaha kept Ampersand company near the church.

Briar, Francisca and Vivi are following the creature's tracks in the woods at night. Pitamaha and Ampersand are staking out the church. Dog is still off in the big city somewhere.

The trails become faint as you go and harder to track. (Rolling Nature for Briar, Francisca (+2) and Vivi (+1). Moderate difficulty, DC 10. One success - Francisca.) You lose the trail and find yourself wandering for at least an hour before stumbling onto a clearing. A boulder is splattered with blood that is pooled around it.

Two sets of tracks lead away from the blood - one toward the town, and one further into the woods. It's a nature check each to try and follow one of the tracks, unless you have some other ability you can use.

Meanwhile in the town with Ampersand and Pitamaha, the old priest sneaks suspiciously into the church building late at night. Pitamaha, with a passive Insight of 20 you get the sense that he's not here for mundane work.

"Thanks," Briar pops the candy in her mouth and sucks on it quietly as they tramp into the woods.

"Think we should check out the trail that goes deeper," Briar says, prodding the cold blood with a finger. "Grandfather and that thief are watching the town. What say the rest of you?"

Francisca nods. "But we should only scout, make sure we don't alert the thing, we'd be better off going back and getting the others once we fight it, If it is some kind of beast, I won't really be much help against it, unless i can talk to it, I guess."

"Ampersand," whispered Pitamaha, "I fear the priest may be conducting some mischief. Watch thou yon windows vigilantly; if my suspicions are unfounded, I shall signal thee with my palm, but if my signal is a fist, or after five minutes thou hast not seen it, then thou shouldst with haste come to my aid."

Then (unless his companion has a strategic disagreement) he walked around to the front door of the church as though he were on an innocent errand, and entered.

"Well, uh... you can sing, right?" Briar asks.

Francisca raises an eyebrow. "Sing? Of course! I've been singing since I could talk! The people of my hometown said my singing was one of the main reasons why I should leave town and go find my fortune elsewhere!"

She spreads her arms and launches into what seems to be a song about the town she came from, she's hitting all the wrong notes and has no real sense of rhythm, the forest comes alive as all the nearby animals try to find cover somewhere else.

Ampersand just kind of stares at Pitamaha's mouth "...what?" is all he can manage before the old man enters the building. Hanging down from the roof he watches through the nearest window.

Francisca opens her eyes wide and covers her mouth. "Oh no, I might have alerted the thing! Sorry, I didn't think!"

She realises that she's not really helping, so she pulls out her notebook and starts jotting down notes in it, letting briar do the tracking.

Pitamaha: The main church room is empty of people. The only other exit in the room is an open door to a small office. In the office, a rug has been cast aside and a trapdoor leads down into what must be a secret basement built into the hill that the church stands on.

Pitamaha listened carefully into the trapdoor for signs of activity.
