The backpack's contents jostle but nothing happens.

"Okay. I'm gonna dump out the bag. Get ready to stomp on any scorpions or spiders." Briar carefully upends the backpack.

Out of the backpack fall twenty gold pieces, fifty silver pieces, a vial of what looks like alchemist's fire, an empty waterskin, and a ruined book. The vial clinks as it hits the ground, but doesn't break.

If he did, he has to make a DC10 Perception check to notice your chalk marks, and a light source to travel by.

Francisca walks up and carefully picks up the book, "I wonder who this belonged to? Why would someone leave their backpack behind like this?"

(Ampersand is in fact still back at the start. It was a very empathetic flinch.)

Vivi suddenly leans in over Fransisca's shoulder, resting her head on it. "Is there any food?"

Francisca jumps about a foot in the air and whimpers. "By rothdar, don't do that to me!"

"Oh, hey Vivi," Briar says. "What happened, did you get bored?" She carefully gathers up the coins, avoiding the broken glass, along with the unbroken vial.

"What's the book say, Franny?"

The book is too ruined to be readable. The ink is smudged and the pages wrinkled as if the book was soaked with water. A few fragments of arcane texts and diagrams survived, but nothing usable.

Francisca looks over the book. "Unfortunately, it's ruined, might be worth keeping around, though. Looks like it might have held magical research or the like."

The corridor continues ahead for as far as your lantern casts its light. Vivi and Briar's low-light vision sees a cavern open up just beyond that.

"Looks like we're almost to... something," Briar notes, keeping her voice low. She leads the way.

The tunnel ends, opening downward into wide cavern. Stalagmites hang from the ceiling, embedded with pieces of purple crystal. The floor slopes downward away from the tunnel and your lantern illuminates a fog that floats quietly over the floor. The walls are uneven with small holes and crevices.

Just before you reach the tunnel end, Ampersand notices the reflection of an arcane glyph on the left wall, about five feet ahead of Briar. It's at a height of five feet.

(ruh-roh! Also, is the chalk line still on the wall? Because Briar's still following it.)

Luckily, with a passive Arcana of 19, Vivi easily spots the glyph, and quickly recognises it as a deadly fire warding trap.

The chalk line is still on the wall, although faint.

The glyph is set to go off when someone comes within about three feet, and it's still live. Thievery could disable it.
