(According to the PHB, if you heal someone with negative HP, their HP is increased to 0, they regain consciousness, and they recover HP as normal from 0.)

Francisca limps over to the wall behind briar, still a bit wobbly from being knocked unconscious, she closes her eyes, reaching out towards briar with mental energy. "Don't worry, you're going to be alright, miss briar!" Working her powers to restore briar's energy and heal up her wounds.

[I'm taking what bongo says to be that any healing brings it back to zero and then whatever I heal is added onto that, so that's briar's healing surge plus 4, plus, she can slide a square as a free action as well]

(I'm a Striker with a +1 Heal check, so anything I do that isn't shoving a heal potion I don't have down your throat or shooting you with lasers would be probably grabbing both sides of your wound and trying to wedge it back in, hastening your death. :V)

(Ok, I'm gonna roll to see if Briar saves vs. horrible psychic cramps.)

Quote
save
1d20
17

(Success!)

Briar's back in the fight! She wakes up, the chill of death receding from her bones, and dashes past Pitahama in a Bull Charge, roaring like a demon.

Quote
Bull Charge
1d20 +9 > 20
18 + 9 = 27 ... success

Quote
Bull Charge Damage
2d12 +5
9 + 9 + 5 = 23

(so is that 11 or 12 total?)

Being at death's door made Briar pretty darn furious.

Quote
Furious Assault
1d12 +1
11 + 1 = 12

(Just a reminder, that's 1[w] extra damage triggered on a hit. Hopefully I got it correct.)

The dragon gasps a pathetic attempt at a roar as its head is cleaved off. You can faintly hear its last words as it disappears like wisps of smoke:

"...Urken tekl." (Anyone speak Draconic?)

The remaining twig blight immediately flees through the nearest tunnel. (You can make an attack if you want, but either way it's not coming back.)

"Was it just my 'magination," Briar pants, "Or did that monster say something?" She wipes her brow as she shakes off the last dregs of her clammy brush with death.

Eight bodies lie on the floor, visible now that the fog has cleared.

There's the human in studded leather you saw earlier, a male halfling wearing dull red mage's robes, a dwarf in steel plate armour, an elf slumped with a burned hand on the unlocked chest, and four orcs wearing crude furs.

All of them have signs of a violent death - bite and slash marks - except for the elf at the chest, whose arm, head and torso are charred by fire.

As the twig skitters into the opening a single crossbow bolt breaks through the wall of black smoke behind it and pierces the barky flesh in a gruesome display of wood-on-wood crime.

The smoke finally dissipates from around Ampersand's form as he steps through, "that hole was not made for you." He proclaims like a total G while heading towards the chest.

Briar follows him, her axe at the ready, listening for more enemies. She stretches a bit as Ampersand jiggers with the lock (using a healing surge).

You find no trap, only the faint residue of what used to be an arcane fire glyph like the one at the cavern entrance.

The chest is full of gold and silver coins. In total, there's 3,500 gold pieces here (700 gp each).

On top is a mummified hand wearing a ring carved out of bone. It resembles a scaly dragon eating its own tail.

The human carried a Whetstone of Venom (Lvl 9, consumable, minor action, applied to a weapon, the next creature successfully struck takes ongoing 5 poison, save ends).

The elf wears a silver Amulet of Life (level 5, +1 Fort/Ref/Will, and once per encounter when you spend a healing surge you can spend an additional healing surge.)

Mundane equipment (not sellable for any significant amount, but maybe useful):

The robed halfling has a journal in one pocket, and a quill and ink in the other. He has a staff with a smashed glass ball on top.

One of the orcs has a necklace of alternating white fangs and black claws that looks familiar: one of the mercenary company who raised you wore one like this.

The dwarf has full plate armour, a steel warhammer, and a small amethyst necklace on a brass chain.

The elf has a longbow and 24 arrows.

Note: If you don't remember to write down your share of the gold and what items you took, you lose them.

(Noticed that technically, Briar should have rolled the save at the end of her turn, and having just recovered from unconscious she should be prone, meaning that she'd still be dazed and would have to spend her only action to stand up. She would have to use her action point to move to the dragon, but still couldn't attack in the same round...

...but Vaur'cha smiles on you this battle and lets the technicality slide.)

Francisca slumps against the wall and sighs. "Wow.. that was close.." She waves at pitamaha. "Thanks for that, you saved me there."

She gets her breath back and gets up, walking towards the others. Of course the first thing she notices is the journal, picking it up and leafing through it.

The last few entries in the journal catch your eye.

"13th F., 1475. We are en route to the temple of Nythertan. Eadric keeps telling me to put my quill and journal away. Eadric is an idiot whose idea of 'culture' consists of nothing but ale, blacksmithing and braiding his stupid beard."

"16th F., 1475. We have stopped at a cave for the night. I took the opportunity to translate the ancient scroll I bought in Rothton. To my dismay, it is just a worthless page from an old copy of The Rynwold Pantheon, with errors. I tried tearing the page up, but the paper is especially resilient. It doesn't even burn. I'll examine it when we get back the the college."

"17th F., 1475. Eorlen insisted on exploring the entire cave before we leave. We've discovered a chamber with crystal stalactites and a misty floor. Thank Nythertan I spotted the arcane fire trap at the entrance or we'd all be toast. Eadric keeps telling me to put my journal and quill away. I'll resume my writing after Eorlen is done opening this chest we found."

The journal ends there. A sheet of paper falls out of the - it's another page of the Pantheon.

You notice something odd about the date in the journal. 1475. The current year is 1501.

Ampersand scoops up the poison stone and gold before tugging the robe off the halfling. He drapes it over his shoulders like a poncho to keep his clothes clean.

"Ouch.. It looks like the one who spotted the fire trap at the entrance missed this one because he was too busy writing in his journal." She looks up at the others. "I'm glad I'm not the one in charge of that kind of stuff here." She says as she reaches down to grab the piece of paper, Stowing the journal away in her pouch with all the other documents she's been hoarding. She examines the new piece of paper through her monocle.

Briar takes the amulet from the elf and looks wistfully at the bow. "Too bad I'm awful at bowin', or I'd take that along. There was one guy in my company who was real good at it though. We called 'im Cobbler, 'cause he was always fixin' boots and stuff. But then he got himself stomped to death tryin' to bring down an oliphant."

She glances over at the orc and pulls the chain of teeth off his neck. "Well now this is somethin'... Haven't seen one of these since..." She stuffs it into her pack.

Spying the grisly object on top of the gold, she asks, "Does anybody want a hand?"
