(When you've levelled your character to level 4, send the character sheet to the usual e-mail address, ideally in the text export format. I don't need the full .dnd4e file.

Vivi has a +4 Intelligence Mod now and learned the Fast Runner feat. Wow!

Vivi ignores Briar's question and motions for a piggy-back ride, exaggerating her limp slightly. "Let's go to... you know. The place we were going."

Francisca catches up to the others. "Does it seem sort of convenient to you guys? I mean, we found another page of the Pantheon with a different account of events. But we didn't explore this cave because of any clues or anything, we wandered in there to see if we could sleep the night.. I mean, what are the chances of us, the people who have been finding these pages, randomly finding a cave that has one that was carried by a long dead adventurer?"

She leans against a wall. "I don't believe in fate. We all have the freedom to live life how we want it, nothing's certain or predetermined, but.. it just seems weird that this would happen completely by random."

[I increased my Diplomacy by 3 up to +14, so with words of friendship i'll get +19 to Diplomacy, and when we get to a big town again, i'm gonna go on the search for some Skald's armour to give myself an extra +2, It's gonna be good times and great classic hits all around.]

Vivi ignores Briar's question and motions for a piggy-back ride, exaggerating her limp slightly. "Let's go to... you know. The place we were going."

Briar, uncertain what Vivi's trying to pantomime, picks the young warlock up and slings her over her shoulder in a fireman's carry. "Right. Here we go."

She leans against a wall. "I don't believe in fate. We all have the freedom to live life how we want it, nothing's certain or predetermined, but.. it just seems weird that this would happen completely by random."

Briar would shrug but for the tiefling-shaped sack of potatoes she's carrying. "I dunno, Franny. Could be there's fakes of the book all over the place. Could be the gods're guiding us around, leaving clues 'n stuff for us to pick up. Not just pages, I mean, but things we'd wanna check out. Like this cave. Course that'd mean that they'd had the ball rolling for years, 'n the guys we just took those pages from were brought here and died so we could find 'em and they'd got the pages from somewhere else and... and..."

She trails off, her eyes wide with existential horror.

Vivi reaches down from her new vantage point and beckons to Rudiger, who hops up and falls asleep on her back. Vivi falls asleep too. Mission accomplished!

"Nah, it's just..." She shakes her head. "Tryin' to wrap my head around that kinda idea's pretty scary. More than facin' down a hundred howlin' bugbears. You're smart, Franny. How do you deal with somethin' so big?"

"The gods did not send them to die," Pitamaha said. "They were called to seek the same truth that beckoneth us, but strayed from the path. The road to revelation runs far longer than we have been following it; if we are not the ones who may reach its end, still must we ready it for those who come after us."

(I'll get you my character sheet here pretty soon.)

Francisca smiles at Briar. "You needn't worry about it, Rothdar gave freedom to all living beings, we live our own lives for good or for ill, coincidences do happen, Us not understanding something just means we don't have enough information yet."

She looks over at Pitamaha, "Who do you think would come after us?"

"Vaur'cha says different, though," Briar responded thoughtfully, shouldering Vivi through the tunnel. "Knowing more than you oughta isn't part of his plan. ESPECIALLY if y'know what the Gods want... or think you do, leastaways. I think."

Briar attempted a shrug. "I dunno, I never payed much attention."

"Anytime someone acts like I shouldn't be asking questions or trying to learn more about something, I just know they've got some juicy secrets hidden away, It's a dead giveaway." Francisca adjusts her backpack as she walks, the weight of the books and gold weighing her down a little. "Why would the gods hide anything? They have nothing to fear from us mere mortals."

After a night's rest, the journey takes you further into the wilderness. You pass an animal skull hanging from a tree, and later a deer skeleton being picked apart by vultures that fly off as you approach. The journey takes several days and is uneventful.

From the top of a hill at midday, you see a wide open plain with the south sea in the distance. To the east, a group of a dozen or so men in mismatched armour on horseback ride toward a vast encampment walled by a tall wooden palisade. In the middle of the encampment is a tall white tower that looks too civilized for the rough, savage settlement that surrounds it. The tower tapers toward the top and is capped with a pyramid of grey stone. A crude system of wooden platforms spirals up the outside of the tower's lower half, supported by posts and ropes.

Do any of us know what that place is?

From your knowledge of arcana you recognize the tower as the Ruins of Nythertan. It's a very ancient building dating back at least 10,000 years, and the only full tower left standing of what was once a large fortress. The pyramid roof was once covered in gold, but evidently it was looted at some point, leaving only bare grey stone.

The settlement is probably some savage tribe.

"Well, what're we waiting for?" Briar mutters. "We should go say hello. You can wow 'em with a tale or two, Franny." She grins and gently punches Fancisca's arm.

Francisca looks at Briar. "Ah.. are you sure they're friendly? What if it's a bandit camp or something?"

She thinks a bit as she walks with Briar. "Actually, it wouldn't make much sense for bandits to live around such an identifiable landmark."

"What a marvelous sight!" said Pitamaha. "It is auspicious that our search for the true history should lead us hither, to such an ancient place. Why, 'tis even older than I, ho ho!"

Vivi is lagging behind Briar as they walk. She has let Rudiger run off to do cat things in the wilderness and even taken off her antlers! She is... unusually quiet!
