Francisca bows and raises her hands, showing that she means them no ill. "Hello there, we mean you no ill will, we're just here to inquire about what you're doing with those two men."

Briar stands beside Francisca, doing her best to look intimidating (given the circumstances), but also trying to wrack her memories for anything that might give them a better chance at dealing with these orcs. Maybe there's some pan-orcish cultural practice half-remembered from when she was a toddler?

"If it matters at all", says the human tied to the back of the horse, "I'm pretty grateful you didn't kill me, too."

Briar: The orcs, being chaotic worshippers of Vaur'cha, respect only strength and power. Diplomacy and mercy are for the weak.

Francisca: The lead orc holds his bow ready. "Slaves," he shouts over. "Our slaves."

Francisca looks past the orcs at the captives. "Hm, why would you want those two as slaves? They don't look particularly strong, They look like they'd just be more trouble than they're worth, Think about it, you need to feed them, you need someone standing guard all the time, and you're going to have to put up with a lot of whining from them, they're not as hardy as you powerful and fearsome orcs, as you probably know, You're just going to end up worse off than when you started. To be honest, your best deal would be to just get them out of your hair right now and hand them over to me."

"That one is one of ours," said Pitamaha, indicating Ampersand. "Methinks he would benefit from a reprimand for his carelessness."

The orc laughs heartily, and puts his bow away.

"It is a brave woman indeed who makes such a request from me!"

He signals his men. The come closer and unload Ampersand and the other man.

"A brave... and beautiful woman. In my tribe, gifts of slaves are exchanged before weddings. Human woman, come to my tribe and be my wife! From today until the day Vaur'cha calls me to the next life, you will have wealth and power like you have never known!"

"Pah!" Briar snarls. "Get your own wife, dog."

She clasps Francisca to herself. "This one is mine."

The human former-captive rubs his waits and midsection, where the ropes have chafed and he'd had his weight pressing up against horse for god-knows-how-long.

"If I can interrupt again, does your tribe live in those ruins over there?"

The orc glares at Briar and looks her over. He leans down from his horse and lifts up the necklace of talons and claws that Briar wears.

"Who are you, half-human? You wear the old symbol of my tribe, but you don't speak like one of us."

"I have no tribe," Briar replies defiantly, still grasping Francisca and glaring at the orc. "Whoever sired me left me without a name and gave me to the Black Claw Company when I was a pup. My name's Briar, and that's who I am. What's it to ya?"

Francisca is flattered, but inwardly thanking Rothdar that Briar is such a quick thinker. Putting her arms around Briar, she holds on tight, if only to stop the big scary orcs taking her away to fit her for a wedding dress.

"Maybe I will take two wives, then!"

The orcs laugh boisterously.

"I see it will take more than a gift of two slaves to win your heart. It has been a long time since I saw such an exciting challenge!"

"Come, tonight we feast. You and your comrades shall be my guests of honour. You have my word that you will not be harmed. I am a feared warrior among my tribe, and none challenge me but the chieftain himself."

Pitamaha remembers the customary response to such an invitation from his previous time traveling among orcs, and delivers it.

Francisca looks up at Briar, Whispering "I don't think we have any choice, We had better go along, Just remember, i'm your wife now, so you have to protect me."

She looks over to the orc warrior, trying her best to hide her worry. "I haven't eaten a good meal for a long time, We'd be honoured to join you at your feast!"

Briar nods at Francisca, then back at the orc. "Yeah. A feast sounds great," she says cautiously.

"I... Bu... Wh... What in the Nine Hells just happened here?"

"You just got freed, man," Briar says. "What's your name?"

Vivi makes this face for the rest of the conversation around the time Franny makes her Diplomacy check. She then turns with this very face to look at the new guy. She just stares at him in disbelief. Judging silently. Probably finding him wanting.

Very, very slowly a small black fuzzy head pokes up over Vivi's own wearing the same expression + a little :3 mouth. Eventually Rudiger clears the top of her head and sets his chin down, a two-faced o_o following the new-comer.

"My name is Peregrinus Gustave Verle", the human states in a stuffy put-upon accent, mocking the ridiculousness of his own name before returning to his usual drawl, "But I go by Gus. Those orcs jumped me in camp and carried me this far, sayin' I was a slave to Kazrac."

"...Didn't say if Kazrac was the chief or the tribe, though. Didn't think it prudent to ask."

"Anyhow, I was gonna go along with it and work for 'em for a while, since it looks like they set up shop over at the Ruins of Nythertan. I've been lookin' for those for months now, and now it turns out they're fulla orcs. It might not've been the best plan to go in and look around as an orc slave, but it's the only plan I could come up with tied to the backend of a horse."

"Anyway, I guess I'm your problem now, since I was orc property a few minutes ago until they gave me to one of you", he says wryly. "I'm a tinker by trade, so I can repair your gear when it breaks, and enchant it so it's better, given the right materials, so I can work for my supper."

"But um, who's the blue-skinned girl and why's she givin' me the stink-eye, anyway?"
