Oh, so the post-game discussion is going to be in this thread? That makes sense, since it's still stickied.

I'm not sure how I feel about multiple people thinking I was Guild.

Also, I'm not Cait. He's over there.

My only regret is that I didn't have more dynamite.

My biggest regret is playing passively and ignoring every gut feeling I had in favor of going along with what was discussed in PMs just in case my gut was wrong.

I have no regrets. We would have won night 3 instead of night 5 if I had acted on my suspicion that Clark's comment about the revealed Thing still getting a vote would lead to him getting burned that night, yet still respected his decision to assimilate Fuchs.

But that would have made for a much less exciting game.

EDIT:
I just read the first two games. Fun times! I'm a little surprised that I was the first Thing to ever test himself, though. And we were the first Thing team to win. Coincidence?

Maybe I should actually go watch the movie on Netflix now.

Kazz here

Thing victory seemed inevitable for a while after I joined

and then things started going wrong (no pun intended)

and Cait self-tested which I thought was completely fucking insane

and we went after Blair even though I swore it was Fuchs

so despite every effort on the part of the Things to lose the game, we still won

hooray

:justasplanned: You're going to have a hard time convincing me that testing myself wasn't ingenious. I was the decoy while Palmer was free to assimilate. And because I had put suspicion on Palmer, the same trick worked the next day.

It really sucked to be a Thing with a wire on day one, because the innocents like to confirm themselves instead of seeking out Things, for some reason.

Yeah, for the record, I think self-testing is a waste of time for the innocent team. Yes, it allows Things, when they happen to get the wire, to avoid self-testing without an excuse, but you're far more likely to get an innocent with the wire than a Thing. It's simple numbers, in my mind.

I have toyed with the idea of not allowing self-testing since game one. If I run the game again, I'll probably enforce that.

You're far more likely to get an innocent with the wire than a Thing no matter who you test.

Yeah, but an innocent with the wire knows 100% that they're going to miss if they self-test. Not so if he tests someone else, and since innocents get the wire more often than Things, doesn't that raise the chance, overall, of testing Things?

Let's suppose 8 humans and 2 things. With no self-testing: 8/10 chance a human gets the bonus test, 2/9 chance of then testing a thing; 2/10 chance a thing gets a bonus test, 0/9 chance of then testing a thing. (16 times out of 90, a thing is tested with this test, or 17.78% of the time.)

With mandatory self testing: 8/10 chance a human gets the bonus test, 0/1 chance of then testing a thing; 2/10 chance of a thing getting the bonus test, and they won't willingly test themselves (Caithness unpredictability notwithstanding) but you know that they're a thing. (2 times out of 10, a thing is ID'ed by this policy, or 20%.)

17.78% < 20%, plus the things will probably give us a bonus innocent test that round.

A policy of self testing also enforces anyone who has previously been tested by the vote test who gets the wire test themselves. That skews the math a bit, at least. I don't know if it's enough to make up for 2.22% or not.

as the game progresses, self-testing becomes more effective because the ratio is changing in the Things favor
