Yeah, TA is his own guy, and not really doing it on purpose.  Please do not steal my banner and run it the wrong way.

On the topic of his early death not leaving room for proper justice: you think so?  Because the way I see it, living longer could have put some distance between the allegations against him and his career, thus enabling people to view him as they liked to imagine him instead of the grim reality of what he probably was.  You know, like THAT GUY.

This rolling death on the heels of his fall from grace is as black a stain as you can put on someone's legacy.  If he had gone to jail, lost everything, etc., and died that way, then people would be inclined to feel sorry for him.  But as it is, justice had the final word and didn't let him prepare a response, and that's how he will be in death: not as a legendary coach, but a sad example of a man who undid years of good work due to gross impropriety.

That's why I'm not so keen on judging him in death.  The Divine has clearly already done as much of that as necessary.

Honestly, I think the cliched phrase "He died a broken man" applies here as much as it might in any other situation. The mental knowledge that his life's work had been destroyed in mere days crushed any physical ability he may or may not have had to beat his illness (or at least survive for a while). You can debate whether or not actual guilt was an emotion in the mix, but he was certainly mentally shattered.

Well, the problem with him not putting a response is that people who really liked him can just say that we will never know the full truth about things.

We know enough to be horrified, and we don't even know all that much yet, it seems.

His supporters look like complete fucking dicks to the much greater population of everybody else now.

I probably should not be too satisfied about that either, but I have to admit my horribleness on this point.

“Jerry loves kids so much that he does things most of us wouldn’t think of doing.”

...is that...is that real?

I mean, I guess it's not like it matters HOW good his lawyer is.

I was at a diner in somewhere in PA today wearing a Penn State t-shirt. As I went to pay, a man sitting at a table with his wife stopped me a regaled me with this little gem:

Man: "Hey, did you know they're closing Cedar Point?"
Me: "Is that right?"
Man: "Yeah. Tell him why, honey."
Woman: "..."
Man: "Come on"
Woman: "... because they have to get the kids away from Sandusky."

I admit, it's funny.

So does everyone in Pennsylvania just know where Cedar Point is?

Sandusky guilty on 45 of 48 counts, 60-448 year sentence.

448 years in prison. If there was any justice in this world we'd find a way to make sure he lived to serve every single one of them.

It is a regrettable commentary on the state of our prison system that I'd be surprised to see him finish his first.

You mean you think he'll be let out, or murdered?

Which do you think is more likely to happen to a convicted child rapist in an American jail?

That's how my uncle died. The prison called it an accident.

Just making sure we're on the same page.

Yeah, I won't shed any tears for the guy but I'm pretty firmly in the "Even the rottenest bastards in the world shouldn't be subjected to the kind of violence that occurs in our prisons" court.

(Dahmer may be an exception as that's more a case of assisted suicide -- he ASKED to be put in general population and said he wanted to die.)
