Remember when I said I was going to apply for a job at Zenimax?  It was for test automation lead.

Pretty glad I didn't do that now.  I'd probably already be dead of alcohol poisoning.

having finally tried the imperial version of the intro dungeon, can i say how gross it is that 24 has infected the national consciousness to the point that Hadvar says, without apparent irony, "i sure wish we didn't need this torture dungeon..."

Well, the intro sequence and dungeon makes the imperial legion look like huge dicks. After playing that bit I reloaded and went through it with the stormcloak and it made a lot more sense.

I guess trying to execute you for merely being on the same wagon as a bunch of traitors - and not second guessing themselves about it  does need some context.
no it doesn't. they're huge dicks.
I'm saying going through it with the stormcloak made more sense since the dungeon has legionaries trying to kill you.

Also talking to the torturer on the imperial version of it also reinforces the huge dicks hypothesis.

Eventually though, the stormcloaks aren't that much better either.

Really, Bethesda had gone through great pains to make sure you're a-ok with killing everyone in the game because they're all huge dicks.

To be fair, the Stormcloaks and Ulfric Stormcloak in particular aren't exactly awesome either. I kind of want to murder Ulfric and sit in his nice castle because he hates the Amerindians? Who the fuck are they supposed to be? Elves.

I actually really LIKE the kind of morally gray choice between both factions. The imperials may be total assholes, ruled in secret by even BIGGER total assholes with gross jaundiced skin, but they're not ultra-nationalist racists and have an endgame in mind besides ULFRIC KING YAAAAAAY :)

I'm just saying that, as a non-retarded person, you're never going to convince me that torture is justified. THIS IS WHY NOBODY HAS EVER LOVED YOU HADVAR, THAT AND YOUR WEIRD GERMAN ACCENT

They weren't trying to convince you of that, just show you that there are people in the setting who are already so convinced.

I don't know if that's a big deal for anyone else, but learning that Talos worship was banned pissed me off something fierce. I mean, as an Oblivion player I've seen first-hand evidence that the man actually did ascend, what with the blood on his armor actually counting as the blood of a Divine. So at first I was really sympathetic to the Stormcloaks. But yeah, racists. When I made it to Windhelm and heard what Ulfric had to say, I just Yelled at him and walked away. (It was Kyne's Peace, so it only messed up his dining room.  :nyoro~n:)

Everyone in TES's universe is a gigantic dick except for M'aiq.

That said, Stormcloaks are the bad guys and the Empire is clearly the side that should be in power. Going in blind it seemed like the Stormcloaks were the good guy underdogs, but every single point of their reason for rebellion that seems justified gets explained as actually being Ulfric's fault in the first place.

M'aiq is also kind of a dick.

I'm trying to find an exception to this "everyone's an asshole" rule and not coming up with one.  All I can say is that I'm glad TES doesn't constantly hit you in the face with the fact like most dark fantasy.

Depending on how you go about solving "Blood on the Ice" the game may spawn a legitimately good argonian woman solely to be murdered that night and advance the plot.

Archmage Traven was a good sort. He got some flak for banning necromancy seemingly out of the blue, but, you know, there was the very real threat of the goddamn King of Worms, which was a danger so immense that the guy who took care of it was immediately promoted over the head of every single mage guild member in the province.

Or are we talking about Skyrim only?
